Job summary

Piedmont Walton Hospital's Med Surg 1 unit is a 36-bed, fast-paced setting caring for a wide range of adult patients with orthopedic needs, general and bariatric surgeries, cardiology/telemetry monitoring, and complex medical conditions. The staff nurse provides care using nursing processes to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the care for patients.

The role requires teamwork, adherence to hospital policies, and ongoing professional growth.

Qualifications

• Graduate from a recognized, accredited school of nursing. Required.
• Bachelors Degree preferred.
• RN licensure in Georgia or NLC/eNLC multistate licensure.
• BCLS - Basic Life Support required.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to patients from birth through the lifecycle using nursing processes.
• Coordinate patient care activities of all assigned staff to ensure quality care.
• Maintain standards of practice and professional accountability.

Overview

Our 36-bed Medical‑Surgical unit offers a fast‑paced, hands‑on environment caring for a wide range of adult patients, including those with orthopedic needs, general and bariatric surgeries, cardiac/telemetry monitoring, and complex medical conditions. RN‑to‑patient ratios typically range from 1:56 and PCTs from 1:69, allowing for meaningful, team‑based patient care.

Team members gain valuable clinical experience with frequent opportunities to perform IV starts, assist with bedside procedures, provide wound care, manage NGTs and chest tubes, administer blood transfusions, and care for post‑op, central line, and colostomy patients. Nurses and PCTs may also float to assist with needs across the hospital, making this a great opportunity for well‑rounded clinical growth and collaboration.

Responsibilities

The staff nurse provides nursing care to patients from birth through the lifecycle utilizing nursing processes to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the care for patients. He/she functions within the framework of the policies and procedures of the organization and demonstrates professional growth and accountability. The staff nurse is responsible for maintaining standards of practice, coordinating patient care activities of all assigned staff in the provision of quality nursing care.

Qualifications

Education

• Graduate from a recognized, accredited school of nursing Required
• Bachelors Degree Preferred

Work Experience

• No experience required New Graduates of a nursing program eligible Required
• Nursing Experience in Hospital Setting Preferred
• 1 year in a hospital setting for PRN positions Preferred

Licenses and Certifications

• RN - Registered Nurse - Georgia State Licensure and/or NLC/eNCL Multistate Licensure Current License in the State of Georgia as a Registered Nurse or NLC/eNCL Multistate License. Required and
