Job description

Position Overview

Part‑time days 7 am – 7 pm – Piedmont Athens Regional, a primary Stroke center, is a 30‑bed acute care facility specializing in Stroke, spinal injuries, head injuries and pre‑ and post‑operative surgical needs. The nursing staff are NIHSS‑assessment certified and attend the Georgia Stroke Class curriculum.

The unit is fast‑paced, inpatient, caring for patients along the continuum of recovery. The Neuro floor team includes a Stroke Coordinator, PT/OT, Respiratory Therapy, Physicians, Case Management, Social Work, Secretary, Phlebotomy, lift team, IV team, STAT team, and Pharmacy. Comprehensive orientation pairs new staff with a qualified preceptor for goal‑setting and training, ensuring success as part of the Neuro Team.

Staff nurses provide nursing care utilizing the nursing process—assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation—within the organization’s policies and procedures. They demonstrate professional growth and accountability, maintain standards of practice, and coordinate patient‑care activities of assigned staff to deliver quality nursing care.

Responsibilities
  • Provide nursing care to patients from birth through all life stages using nursing processes.
  • Maintain nursing standards of practice and coordinate patient‑care activities.
  • Adhere to patient ratios determined by volume and acuity; may adjust under extenuating circumstances.
Qualifications
Education
  • Graduate from a recognized, accredited nursing school (required).
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
Work Experience
  • No prior experience required; new graduates of a nursing program eligible (required).
  • Nursing experience in a hospital setting preferred.
  • At least 1 year in a hospital setting for PRN positions preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
  • RN – Registered Nurse – Georgia State licensure or NLC/eNCL Multistate license, current (required).
  • BCLS – Basic Life Support (required).
  • Advanced certification in the field of specialty, if applicable.
Addendum – Additional Certifications
  • Cardiac Tele: ACLS Certification within 180 days of start date.
  • Critical Care: ACLS Certification within 180 days of start date.
  • Dialysis: CDN (preferred).
  • Emergency Department: ACLS and PALS Certifications within 180 days; TNCC and ENPC required at specific hospitals within 180 days.
  • Infusion/Oncology: Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Certification prior to independent chemotherapy administration (required at hire).
  • Pediatrics: PALS and PEARS Certification within 180 days.
  • Surgical Services: Pre‑Op, PACU, ENDO, CSU, ARU ACLS; PALS if pediatric patient care; BLS required within 180 days.
  • Women’s Services: Labor and Delivery ACLS, NRP, AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring within 12 months; NAT, Nursery, NICU NRP within orientation; all within 180 days.
