Job summary

CGH Medical Center in Sterling, Illinois, is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse to provide professional nursing care under supervision on an assigned unit. You will document care, administer medications, and support discharge planning with the team.

The ideal candidate has an accredited PN program graduate with IL LPN licensure and BLS within 30 days of hire. Acute care experience is preferred, with a commitment to patient safety and quality care.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Practical Nursing education program.
• Current Illinois Licensed Practical Nurse Licensure required.
• Previous experience in acute care setting preferred.
• BLS certification within 30 days of hire and maintained thereafter.

Responsibilities

• Provides professional nursing under supervision within an assigned unit or area.
• Maintains patient records and documents accurately using computer systems as needed.
• Administers narcotics, medications, and IV therapies per licensure.
• Assists with assessing and planning patient/family education and discharge needs.
• Recognizes and responds to emergencies promptly and appropriately.
• Collaborates with RNs or physicians to plan, delegate and evaluate patient care tasks.
• Promotes a professional practice environment by serving as a resource to team members.
• Demonstrates nursing competencies based on current scientific knowledge.

POSITION PURPOSE

Provides professional nursing under supervision within an assigned unit, department or specialty area utilizing the nursing process.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Ensures optimal patient care utilizing the nursing process under the direction of a registered nurse or physician.
• Maintains patient records and documents to ensure an accurate record of the patient’s medical and nursing care, to include computer systems as necessary.
• Administers and controls narcotics, medications and IV therapies in accordance with the Licensed Practical Nurse, Nurse Practice Act.
• Assists with assessing and planning patient/family education and discharge needs.
• Recognizes and responds to emergency situations appropriately.
• Collaborates with the Registered Nurse or Physician in problem-solving to include initiating, delegating and evaluating patient care team functions.
• Promotes an environment conducive to professional practice by functioning as a role model and resource person for other patient services team members.
• Practices competencies in nursing skills based upon current scientific knowledge.

SPECIALIZED KNOW-HOW & REQUIREMENTS

• Graduate of an accredited Practical Nursing education program required.
• Current Illinois Licensed Practical Nurse Licensure required.
• Previous experience working in an acute care setting is preferred.
• In-depth working knowledge of current concepts, principles and procedures used in patient care within an acute care setting, preferred.
• Must obtain BLS within 30 days of hire and maintain throughout employment.

Compensation Range

$24.20 - $50.49
