Job summary

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is hiring full-time Registered Nurses for our Emergency Department, home to Hampton Roads’ only Level I Trauma Center. Join a high-performing team delivering timely, high-quality emergency care across a 53-bed ED.

Location: Norfolk, VA. Shift: Weekend Day; Hours: 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.; 36 hours per week with weekend rotations and holiday requirements.

Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in Registered Nursing required.
  • BSN or MSN preferred.
  • BLS required within 90 days of hire.
  • NIHSS, TCRN, SCRN, TNCC, CEN, PALS and ACLS preferred.
  • Prior RN experience preferred.
  • Emergency Department experience preferred.
  • Strong candidates with related acute care, critical care, trauma, cardiac, stroke or med/surg experience encouraged.

Overview: Registered Nurse (RN) – Emergency Department | Level I Trauma Center

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is hiring full-time Registered Nurses for our Emergency Department, home to Hampton Roads’ only Level I Trauma Center. This is an opportunity to join a high-performing emergency nursing team where clinical skill, teamwork, and purpose come together to make an immediate impact for patients and families across the region.

Location: Sentara Norfolk General Hospital – Norfolk, VA

Position Status: Full-time, 36 hours per week

Shift: Weekend Day shift

Available Hours: 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.

Weekends: Every weekend

Holiday Rotation: Required

As part of a Level I Trauma Center, you will work alongside experienced emergency medicine providers, specialists, and interdisciplinary teams to deliver timely, high-quality care when patients need it most. Nurses in this department gain exposure to complex emergency, trauma, cardiac, stroke, critical care, and specialty cases while building advanced clinical skills in a collaborative environment. Sentara Norfolk General Emergency Department has been recognized with the Emergency Nurses Association Lantern Award, honoring exceptional and innovative leadership, practice, education, advocacy, and research.

Education Requirements
  • Degree or diploma in Registered Nursing required
  • BSN or MSN preferred
  • Students completing an accredited nursing program may be considered
Certification/Licensure Requirements
  • Registered Nurse license required
  • Students in the process of obtaining a Registered Nurse license may be considered
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days of hire
  • NIHSS, TCRN, SCRN, TNCC, CEN, PALS, and ACLS preferred
Experience Requirements
  • Prior RN experience preferred
  • Emergency Department experience preferred
  • Strong candidates with related acute care, critical care, intermediate care, trauma, cardiac, stroke, or med/surg experience are encouraged to apply
