Job summary

Elliot Hospital is seeking an RN Lactation Consultant for the Maternity unit to support breastfeeding initiatives and provide lactation care for mothers and families. You will work with the Women and Children’s health team to deliver evidence-based lactation services, including rounds, consults, and outreach in the community.

The role requires an RN license, IBLCE certification, and at least three years of acute care experience.

Qualifications

• RN licensure required or in progress
• BSN preferred
• At least 3 years of clinical experience in acute care settings
• Certified lactation consultant (IBLCE) required

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Women and Children’s health team to promote lactation and family-centered care.
• Perform lactation rounds across Maternity, NICU and Pediatrics and document plans.
• Provide telephone support via Lactation Warm Line and arrange outpatient referrals as needed.
• Establish and maintain lactation protocols and staff education on care standards.

Who We Are:

Elliot Hospital’s Women's and Children's Services are dedicated to addressing the specific health and wellness needs of women and their children. Our Maternity unit is a 24-26 bed unit averaging 14 mother/baby patients with 55 employees. Patients are high and low risk postpartum mom & babies 35 weeks gestation and above, substance-exposed infants, management of hyperbilirubinemia and hypoglycemia in the newborn, as well as post gynecological surgery.

About the Job:

The lactation consultant is to provide a comprehensive lactation services to meet the needs of professional providers, antepartum, post-partum lactating women and their families within Elliot Hospital and within the community.

What You’ll Do:

Collaborates with Women and Children’s health team and families to establish and maintain a team approach to promote successful lactation, consults and reports the needs of lactating families to the healthcare providers, utilizes strategies to support breastfeeding by performing daily lactation rounds on Maternity, NICU, Pediatrics and to other departments within the Elliot Hospital system and assesses, plans, implements and documents an individualized lactation plan to promote consistent patient care Demonstrates expertise in care of mother/infant complex breastfeeding problems and at risk infants, performs follow-up calls with families with breastfeeding problems or at risk, provides telephone support on “Lactation Warm Line” regarding breastfeeding issues, as well as provides outpatients or referral appointments, which includes assessing, planning, implementation, documenting and reevaluates the individualize plan Establishes and maintains protocols, guidelines related to the standards of care for assisting breastfeeding mothers in all areas of the institute; evaluates, maintains, and assist with the use of appropriate breastfeeding aids and equipment; assist in providing on going in-service/education for nursing and medical staff, to enhance the professional development and facilitates successful lactation management; provides a reference and current research data pertaining to breastfeeding for families and healthcare providers as well as provides consultation for the Moms Group and other Elliot services and programs as requested

Who You Are:

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (BSN preferred) Current New Hampshire, compact, or multistate licensure as Registered Nurse required Certified through the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners required At least three (3) years of clinical experience in an acute healthcare institution Ability to obtain BLS qualification during orientation period and maintain during employment
