Job Duties
  • Perform and accurately document physical, psychosocial, and emotional assessments, considering age‑specific criteria.
  • Anticipate patient and family needs, develop care plans, and utilize critical thinking in planning and prioritizing lactation nursing care.
  • Identify and implement appropriate nursing interventions, ensuring accurate and timely documentation.
  • Coordinate interdisciplinary care, confer with team members, and advocate for optimal patient outcomes.
  • Prioritize interventions, monitor for changes in condition, and take follow‑up action promptly.
  • Evaluate interventions, modify care as needed, and document changes accurately.
  • Adhere to hospital policies, nursing standards, and national standards, incorporating ANA and other professional models.
  • Provide education to patients, families, and caregivers; document all educational activities and discharge plans.
  • Orient patients and families to the unit, encourage participation, review personalized care plans each shift, and update related resources.
  • Advocate for resources and support to enhance patient safety and unit initiatives; participate in data evaluation for budget decisions.
  • Conduct peer evaluations, hold colleagues accountable, and intervene when patient safety is at risk.
  • Accountable for patient care quality and safety initiatives, including patient safety, satisfaction, and infection control.
  • Share professional information with colleagues and students; offer assistance as needed.
  • Perform tasks involving patient care, research participant interaction, or modification of patient and research records.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Experience and Education
  • Minimum of 2 years Lactation Consultant experience.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification accredited by AHA or ARC.
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification (AAP version) required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • IBCLC certification (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant).
