Job summary

Johnson Regional Medical Center is seeking a dedicated RN for Labor & Delivery. You will provide direct patient care during nights and weekends, perform neonatal assessment and resuscitation per guidelines, and communicate with physicians about fetal monitoring results.

You will assess, plan, and revise care plans to ensure safe, age-appropriate patient care and participate in ongoing performance improvement activities within Maternal-Child Health services.

Qualifications

• Neonatal Resuscitation Certification completed.
• Basic to intermediate fetal monitoring training completed.
• Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
• Current State RN licensure.
• Current BLS certification.
• English language skills; other languages optional.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in Labor & Delivery with supervision as needed.

Full-time DescriptionJob Title: RN - Labor & Delivery; FT, Weekend Option, Nights 7pm-7amSupervised by: Nurse ManagerJob Summary:Provides direct patient care in the Labor and Delivery setting. Provides assessment and planning for individualized patient care. Communicates with physicians about changes in patient’s clinical condition including fetal monitoring and results of diagnostic studies. Responds quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Performs general nursing duties in all Maternal-Child Health departments with adequate supervision. Participates in performance improvement activities.Demonstrates Competency In The Following Areas

• Able to assess neonate at delivery and perform neonatal resuscitation according to AHA/AAP guidelines. Ability to conduct antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum assessments.
• Demonstrates knowledge of fetal monitoring. Identifies FHR patterns and treats appropriately.
• Ability to assess presenting part by Leopold Maneuver and/or digital exam.
• Ability to assess fetal cardiac activity with ultrasound transducer and contraction activity with Toco transducer.
• Ability to adequately assess and reassess pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Educates the patient and family regarding pain management.
• Ability to revise plan of care as indicated by the patient’s response to treatment and evaluate overall plan daily for effectiveness.
• Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient’s age.
• Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition.
• Follows the seven (7) medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors.
• Formulates a teaching plan based upon identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning, family is included in teaching as appropriate.
• Demonstrates an ability to assist physicians with procedures and performs services requiring technical and manual skills.
• Demonstrates ability to perform treatments and provide services to level licensure.
• Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families. Functions as liaison between administration, patients, physicians and other healthcare providers.

RequirementsRegulatory Requirements

• Successful completion of Neonatal Resuscitation Certification and Basic to Intermediate fetal monitoring course.
• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Current state Registered Nurse Licensure, within state of practice.
• Current BLS certification.

Language Skills

• Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
• Additional languages preferred.
