Job summary

Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Waxahachie is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) for Labor & Delivery on the night shift. The role supports laboring and postpartum patients, with 3 x 12-hour shifts and on-call requirements.

Expansion plans for Summer 2026 enhance opportunities and resources for team growth. Qualified candidates will have a nursing degree, an active RN license, and strong fetal-monitoring skills.

Position Details

Specialty: Labor & Delivery

Schedule: Full-Time, Nights

Shift: 3 x 12-hour shifts (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)

Additional Requirement: 36 hours/week + 18 hours of on-call every 6 weeks

About Our Women’s Services Team

Collaborative team of 70 Women’s Services professionals

Unit Includes

6 Labor Rooms, 1 Triage Room, 2-Bed Recovery Room (convertible to 4-bed triage), and 2 Operating Rooms

10 Labor Rooms

3-bed OB Emergency Department (OBED)

Patient Ratios

1 RN: 2 patients OR 1 RN: 1 labor patient + 1 triage patient

Triage

1 RN: up to 3 triage patients

Responsibilities

Provide high-quality, compassionate care to laboring and postpartum patients

Perform continuous fetal monitoring and interpret results accurately

Support vaginal and surgical deliveries in collaboration with providers

Deliver safe, evidence-based care in both labor and triage settings

Required Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited nursing program

Current RN license

Strong experience with fetal monitoring and laboring patients

Preferred Qualifications

• Triage nurse competency
• Circulator nurse experience
• Certified in Obstetrics (RNC-OB)
• NRP certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire)
• "Baby catcher"/delivery experience

Job Summary

As a Registered Nurse, oversee patient care using a professional practice model. Responsibilities include patient assessment, recognizing health issues, creating care plans, and assessing patient responses. Secure patient travel. Know about patient needs in healthcare. Help patients and prevent issues. Follow the Texas Nursing Practice Act and delegate tasks based on condition and team competencies.

• As an RN, conduct detailed clinical assessments and prioritize patient and family needs. Create, implement, and evaluate care plans. Adjust plans to reach desired outcomes.
• Building relationships, managing discomfort, staying professional are vital in therapeutic connections with patients and families.
• Creating care plans reflecting values aids in resolving issues.
• You will help educate patients, families, nurses, and community members. Empower them with knowledge for better healthcare choices. Assess and document learning needs regularly.
