Job summary

UNM Sandoval Regional Medical Center in Rio Rancho, NM seeks a licensed RN to provide direct patient care within the nursing process and offer clinical leadership during night shifts. You will promote a positive work environment and ensure adherence to hospital policies, serving Neonate to Geriatric patients as needed.

The role includes administering medications, assisting with procedures, participating in discharge planning, teaching patients and families, and supporting safety initiatives

Qualifications

  • Program Graduate (Essential).
  • Bachelor's Degree (Nonessential).
  • Nationally Accredited Nursing Graduate (Essential).

  • Maintain a safe environment per hospital standards.
  • Collaborate with healthcare team and document individualized care plans.
  • Deliver safe direct care to an assigned group of patients.
  • Administer medications, including IV, with proper documentation.
  • Assist with tests/procedures and obtain proper consent.
  • Discharge planning and patient/family teaching as needed.
  • Respond to emergencies and report safety concerns promptly.
  • Triage calls and participate in orientation and preceptor duties.

Job description

Position Summary

Work within the nursing process to provide direct nursing care to assigned patients. Provide clinical leadership for other staff and assume relief charge duties when designated. Serve as a role model to promote a positive work environment and quality patient care. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric age groups.

Detailed Responsibilities
  • Follow patient safety‑related policies, procedures and protocols
  • Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in‑services, meetings and workshops
  • Maintain a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with Hospitals standards
  • Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes
  • Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk
  • Work within Hospitals, Nursing division and departmental policies
  • Work in collaboration with the healthcare team, implement and document individualized care plans incorporating age‑specific considerations, including discharge planning and patient/family teaching
  • Administer medication, including IV medication, via the Seven Rights; document and communicate clinical findings
  • Assist with special tests and procedures, ensure proper consent has been obtained
  • Assist with or institute emergency measures for sudden, adverse developments in patients
  • Deliver safe direct care to an assigned group of patients as required
  • Ensure that patient medical records contain necessary information
  • Answer telephones and triage calls as per departmental policy
  • Participate in orientation; upon successful completion of preceptor training assume precepting and evaluation responsibilities of new personnel
  • Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner
  • Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don’t understand or may "not seem right"
Qualifications

Education:

  • Program Graduate (Essential)
  • Bachelor's Degree (Nonessential)

Education specialization:

  • Nationally Accredited Nursing Graduate (Essential)
  • Nursing (Nonessential)

Experience:

  • No minimum experience required (Nonessential)
  • Bilingual English/Spanish

Credentials:

  • CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers within 30 days
  • RN in NM or as allowed by reciprocal agreement by NM
  • Basic Arrhythmia Cert within 1 year
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification within 6 months
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) within 6 months of hire
  • Nationally Certified in area of specialty (Nonessential)

Physical Conditions:

  • Heavy work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.
  • Sig Hazard: Chemicals, Bio Hazardous Materials require PPE
  • Tuberculosis testing is completed upon hire and additionally as required
