Job summary

University of South Alabama seeks an Infection Preventionist to lead surveillance, data analysis, and intervention planning across Mobile facilities. Qualifications

• Certification in Infection Prevention and Control (CIPC) within three years of employment.
• Comparable combination of education and experience may substitute for the above requirements.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities

• Conducts surveillance, analyzes infection-related data and trends, and identifies opportunities for intervention and performance improvement.
• Maintains ongoing surveillance for healthcare-associated infections, multidrug-resistant organisms, communicable diseases, and other infection prevention risks to support early detection and timely intervention.
• Implements evidence-based infection prevention and control strategies to reduce the risk of healthcare-association infections by collaborating with clinical teams.
• Leads investigations, reporting, and management of infection-related events, outbreaks, and other epidemiologically significant occurrences.
• Implements and evaluates strategic infection prevention and control plans that support organizational goals, regulatory requirements, and patient safety initiatives.
• Evaluates the effectiveness of infection prevention and control practices at the facility level; recommends process improvements to support continuous program enhancement.
• Utilizes data, trends, audits, and outcome measures to drive sustained improvements in infection prevention and control performance.
• Reviews and implements infection prevention and control policies, procedures, guidelines, and protocols based on current evidence, regulatory standards, and best practices.
• Serves as a subject matter expert and resource for infection prevention and control practices, regulatory requirements, and emerging infectious disease concerns.
• Participates in quality improvement, patient safety, accreditation, and regulatory readiness initiatives related to infection prevention and control.
• Provides education, consultation, and guidance to healthcare personnel, patients, families, and other key stakeholders regarding infection prevention and control measures.
• Promotes awareness, competency, and adherence to infection prevention practices.
• Participates in specific hospital and health system committees; prepares data as requested.
• Completes line and device rounds routinely to monitor maintenance bundle compliance.
• Actively participates in environment of care (EOC) rounds.
• Participates as a member of the local APIC chapter.
• Completes all mandatory department, educational and hospital requirements
• Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards
• Regular and prompt attendance
• Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required
• Related duties as assigned

Additional Information

Employees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (.50 FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in nursing, allied health, a physical or natural science,or a related field from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama and 4 years related experience in an acute care setting Required
• Master's Degree may substitute for up to one year of the required experience Preferred
• Infection Prevention and Controlexperience Preferred
• Current licensure in clinical field, if clinical degree Required and
• Certification in Infection Prevention and Control (CIPC) within three years of employment Required
• Comparable combination of education and experience may substitute for the above requirements.
