Job summary

Allegheny Health Network’s CH ICU – Medical Intensive Care Unit in Canonsburg seeks a dedicated RN to provide direct nursing care in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment. The 8‑bed unit cares for diverse patients with cardiac, pulmonary, infectious disease, neurology, nephrology and GI conditions.

You will apply the nursing process, coordinate interdisciplinary plans, document thoroughly, teach patients and families, and may serve as a preceptor.

Qualifications

• PA RN licensure required.
• CPR certification required (American Heart Association).
• Clearance: Act 34, Act 33, Act 73 FBI background clearances.
• Active Pennsylvania license or ability for multi-state licensure via eNLC.

Responsibilities

• Utilizes the nursing process in developing and coordinating the care plan for the age-appropriate population.
• Initiates, monitors and revises interdisciplinary plan of care based on assessments and orders.
• Completes patient documentation in a comprehensive manner per facility policies and regulatory requirements.
• Provides ongoing teaching to patients and families across the continuum of care.
• Supports the development of students, new staff and colleagues; may serve as a preceptor.
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.

CH ICU – Medical Intensive Care Unit

The Canonsburg ICU is an 8‑bed unit that offers both intensive care and step‑down capabilities, providing comprehensive care for a diverse patient population. Registered Nurses (RNs) in this department manage complex conditions across specialties such as cardiac, pulmonary, infectious disease, neurology, nephrology and GI. RNs frequently care for patients experiencing sepsis, respiratory failure, diabetic ketoacidosis, substance abuse withdrawal and related conditions. You will thrive within our collaborative team structure, working alongside dedicated RNs, Patient Care Technicians (PCTs), hospitalist physicians, pulmonary intensivists and TeleICU, who are committed to delivering exceptional patient care and supporting each other’s professional development.

General Overview

Provides direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures, protocols and standards of the healthcare organization.

Essential Responsibilities

• Utilizes the nursing process in providing and coordinating the plan of patient care for the age‑appropriate population. (30%)
• Initiates, monitors and revises interdisciplinary plan of care based on assessment findings and physician orders for the age‑appropriate population. (20%)
• Completes patient documentation in a comprehensive manner in accordance with facility policies and regulatory requirements that promotes interdisciplinary communication. (25%)
• Provides ongoing and appropriate teaching to patients and families to effectively guide them across the continuum of care. (20%)
• Supports the development of students, new staff and colleagues, may serve as a preceptor. (5%)
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Qualifications

• Current State of PA RN licensure or current multi‑state licensure through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
• CPR – American Heart Association.
• Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate.
• Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate.
• Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate.
