Job description

Summary

The Registered Nurse manages all aspects of the nursing process and the delivery of patient and family centered care. The RN has the responsibility and authority to request and use governing and administrative resources, technological and support systems, and multidisciplinary clinical experts necessary to manage and deliver quality, cost effective patient care.

RN Specialties and Requirements
  • Emergency Department (ED) – BLS required; ACLS/PALS preferred.
  • Operating Room (OR) – 3+ years OR nursing experience; ability to circulate and scrub; BLS required; call required.
  • First Assist OR – 3+ years OR experience; RNFA program completion; circulating and scrubbing; call required.
  • Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) – 3+ years critical care and/or specialty experience; ACLS and PALS certification required.
  • Intensive Care Unit (ICU) – ACLS certification required.
  • Cardiac Rehab – 2+ years med/surg nursing; 2+ years recent cardiac intensive nursing; critical care education; BLS and ACLS; ANCC Cardiac Vascular Nursing Certification preferred.
  • Med Surg – BLS/ACLS required; 2+ years med/surg experience preferred.
  • Pediatrics / Labor & Delivery – Pediatric ED/unit: BLS and PALS; Labor & Delivery: BLS (EFM preferred). Minimum 2+ years pediatric or labor experience.
  • Pre‑Op Evaluation – 2+ years critical care experience.
  • Radiology – 3+ years med/surg nursing experience; 1+ year critical care; BLS and ACLS required.
Core Responsibilities
  • Foster a culture of excellence: treat all as worthy of respect and attention; design care and services collaboratively.
  • Maintain compliance with NSMC policies, regulations, and corporate codes of conduct.
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for all patients, taking into account age, developmental, socioeconomic, psychological, physical, spiritual, and cultural factors.
  • Delegate nursing activities appropriately to unlicensed personnel based on patient stability, training, and proximity.
  • Collect, analyze, and communicate patient information to facilitate coordinated care.
  • Collaborate with patients, families, physicians, and the health care team to expedite and coordinate services and ensure efficient resource use.
  • Develop teaching plans, educate patients and families regarding disease processes, medications, and self‑care, and assess learning needs.
  • Ensure timely initiation, completion, and documentation of nursing care, tests, treatments, teaching, and discharge planning.
  • Consult clinical specialists and the Health Care Coordinator for complex patient care management and discharge planning.
  • Identify barriers to care, consult appropriate resources, and implement solutions.
  • Seek innovative opportunities to improve patient care and demonstrate fiscal accountability.
  • Follow hospital policies on patient and staff safety, infection control, and maintain a safe environment.
  • Adhere to human resources policies, dress code, and wear employee badge.
  • Respect diverse populations and promote inclusive, cooperative relationships among staff.
  • Act as a role model, recognize others’ achievements, and participate in change initiatives.
Supervisory & Managerial Responsibilities
  • Direct, supervise, and develop assigned personnel, including hiring, evaluation, and mentoring.
  • Prioritize departmental resources, identify systemic problems, and recommend improvements.
  • Lead multidisciplinary conferences and educational initiatives.
  • Perform orientation for new employees and serve as preceptor.
  • Implement performance improvement activities and sustain compliance with regulatory agencies.
  • Supervise unlicensed assistive personnel and support staff to achieve daily patient outcomes.
Education

Other certificate/diploma nursing required; Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred.

Licenses & Credentials
  • Registered Nurse (RN) state license – required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Perform nursing duties in scope, demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care for assigned patients. Certifications in CPR, PALS, ACLS, and BLS may be required upon hire for specific units. Those transitioning into a new area without requisite skills will receive training.
