Job summary

UAB Medicine in Birmingham, AL is seeking an RN to provide care for patients undergoing hyperbaric oxygen therapy. You will apply the nursing process, assess needs, and coordinate care with the healthcare team to deliver safe, evidence-based treatment.

Requirements include an Associate’s degree in Nursing, two years of relevant experience, Alabama RN license, BLS, ACLS, and CHRN certification within 18 months. Hyperbaric training is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in Nursing is required.
  • Hyperbaric training course approved by NBDHMT is preferred; not substitutable by work experience.
  • Work experience may not substitute for education requirement.
  • Must hold or be eligible for RN license in Alabama.
  • Must hold CPR/BLS by AHA or obtain within 30 days; ACLS certification required.
  • CHRN certification to be obtained within 18 months from date of hire.

Pay range: $32.38 - $51.81 / hour

Shifts: full-time AM

Job Description

To utilize the nursing process to provide care for patients receiving hyperbaric oxygen therapy.

To demonstrate knowledge and expertise in care of the hyperbaric oxygen therapy patient. Uses a systematic critical‑thinking approach to guide data gathering, assessment, nursing judgment, intervention, and evaluation of human responses to actual and potential health problems.

To identify patient needs using the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) Synergy Model.

To delegate, coordinate, and manage all aspects of nursing care provided to the hyperbaric oxygen therapy patient, their family, and community in a timely and cost‑effective manner.

To deliver patient care in collaboration with the patient, their family, and all members of the health care team with the knowledge of a licensed physician.

Qualifications

Associate’s degree in Nursing and two (2) years of relevant experience required.

Completion of a hyperbaric training course approved by the National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology (NBDHMT) preferred.

Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

Must be currently licensed or eligible to be licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing.

Must hold Certified Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) or must obtain it within thirty (30) days of employment.

Must hold Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification from the AHA.

Must hold Certified Hyperbaric Registered Nurse (CHRN) as approved by the National Board of Diving & Hyperbaric Medical Technology and Baromedical Nurses Association Certification Board (BNACB) within eighteen (18) months from date of hire.
