Adventist Health Ukiah Valley is a 50‑bed acute care medical center located in Ukiah, California, serving the community with level IV trauma, level II ICU, advanced wound care, outpatient surgery, diagnostic and rehabilitation services.

Job Summary

Provides overall supervision of the organization in collaboration with and in the absence of the administrative/executive team. Makes administrative decisions, collaborates with Nursing Directors and other departments, ensures patient and staff safety, and oversees the functioning of the organization. Assists with/facilitates clinical functions. Supervises and directs the activities of various levels of assigned personnel using both professional and supervisory discretion and independent judgment.

Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in nursing or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Required
  • Master’s Degree: Preferred
  • Five years’ technical experience: Preferred
  • One year’s experience working in a critical care setting: Preferred
Licenses/Certifications
  • Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of practice: Required
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification or Basic Life Support (BLS OR HS-BLS OR RQIBLS) certification from an approved vendor per AH policy: Required
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS OR HS-ACLS OR RQIACLS) certification from an approved vendor per AH policy: Required for all facilities, except Behavioral Health
  • Clinical specialty and/or nursing administration certification: Preferred
Facility Specific License/Certifications
  • AHA-BLS or AHA-CPR: Required
  • AHA-PALS: Required
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support): Required
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC): Required
Essential Functions
  • Supervises nursing personnel and operations by making rounds on a regular basis. Assesses routine and non‑routine conditions of patients through identification of symptoms and behavioral changes, reviewing histories, medical data and documentation, working with staff to develop a prioritized interdisciplinary plan of care, responding to all acute unit codes and medical emergencies, and providing assistance across areas as needed.
  • Facilitates hospital throughput including providing resources, managing bed placement and patient transfers/discharges; coordinates bed huddles; participates in discharge planning with patients, physicians, social workers, patient education, utilization review and other personnel.
  • Supervises professional and ancillary personnel. Assists with orientation and training of registry/traveler staff, new and existing employees, assists them in learning department routines, policies and procedures; supervises the quality and effectiveness of patient care delivered throughout the hospital using direct observation, rounds, reviews of reports and documentation, and gives direction as needed; ensures compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations.
  • Maintains and adjusts unit-based staffing to meet patient needs while observing regulatory mandates, budget guidelines and hospital needs.
  • Evaluates employee, patient, family, and physician complaints; responds courteously and promptly, resolves problems within the scope of delegated authority, consults with administration as required; works with patients, families, physicians, and healthcare team members to maintain quality care standards.
  • Performs other job‑related duties as assigned.
