Job summary

Qualifications

The RN Clinical Nurse is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed caregivers who ensure that patients, families and significant others receive individualized, high‑quality, safe patient care. They practice in a clinical environment that is administered by Nurse Managers and other leaders and is supported through the Wellstar Shared Governance Model. The framework for practice is steered by the Wellstar Professional Practice Model and evidence‑based practice and research. RN competencies are derived from these models and supported by the Wellstar Values. All RN Clinical Nurses are expected to be licensed, knowledgeable and to uphold the practice of nursing as outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act and the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics Standards put forth by the American Nurses Association. As a member of the patient services team, the individual is expected to uphold the voice of the patient, system policies and procedures while supporting service excellence goals.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions
  • A. Performs the Nursing Process (assessment, diagnosis, identification of outcomes, planning, implementation and evaluation) in the performance of clinical care using evidence‑based practice, analytical and critical thinking, ensuring care is individualized and coordinated through effective partnerships.
  • B. Provides relationship‑based, patient‑centered care that is consistent with population‑specific characteristics (e.g., age, gender, disease) and adapts service delivery to reflect an understanding of cultural diversity.
  • C. Partners with the patient and significant others using appropriate methods for setting and purpose (e.g., bedside shift report, interdisciplinary rounds, just‑in‑time and planned patient teaching); keeps the patient and significant others updated and makes the patient’s goals the focus of the plan of care.
  • D. Practices using current clinical practice standards.
  • A (Teamwork & Collaboration). Coordinates the delivery and documentation of safe, quality patient care that promotes the professional care delivery model, including diverse and inclusive interdisciplinary communication methods, timely documentation, and fostering a respectful and inclusive clinical environment.
  • B. Demonstrates teamwork and collaboration in a fiscally responsible manner and promotes recruitment and retention of all healthcare team members.
  • C. Participates in and supports performance improvement with all stakeholders, including research utilization to promote safe, quality patient care; initiates or leads such activities and supports shared governance at all levels.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
Professional Development and Initiative
  • A. Completes all initial and ongoing professional competency assessments, required mandatory education, and population‑specific education.
  • B. Serves as a preceptor and/or mentor for other professional nurses (and staff or students in all disciplines) to ensure a qualified future workforce, modeling professional nursing practice and creating a healthy work environment.
Evidence‑Based Practice and Research
  • A. Promotes evidence‑based practice, nursing research, and performance improvement in nursing.
  • B. Upholds health‑care system, organizational policies and procedures, clinical competencies, legal, regulatory, and accreditation requirements, including goals such as TJC Patient Safety Goals and Wellstar Health Systems safety absolutes.
  • C. Participates in data collection and poses relevant clinical questions, consulting appropriate experts and utilizing resources and evidence to address practice questions.
Resources and Support
  • A. Proactively plans for the care of patients across the care continuum while delivering direct patient care.
  • B. Participates in the development of protocols and procedures when called upon or through self‑initiation in collaboration with care managers and other team members to achieve best‑practice outcomes.
  • C. Supports efficient and effective use of human and material resources.
Required Minimum Education

Associates in Nursing or Diploma (Nurse) Nursing or Bachelor in Nursing – Preferred

Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s)

All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.

  • RN – Reg Nurse (Single State) or RN‑COMPACT – RN – Multi‑state Compact
  • BLS – Basic Life Support or ARC‑BLS – American Red Cross Basic Life Support or BLS‑I – Basic Life Support – Instructor
  • ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support or ARC‑ALS – American Red Cross Advanced Life Support or ACLS‑I – ACLS – Instructor or ACLS‑P – ACLS‑Provisional (180 Days) within 180 Days
Additional License(s) and Certification(s)

  • Less than 1 year
  • Completion of accredited/approved school of nursing with requisite clinical hours
  • Direct patient care experience – Preferred
