Job summary

Summa Health is seeking an RN for a full-time, night-shift position on an acute detox unit in Akron. The role requires applying nursing knowledge to provide care, coordinate services, and support patients and their families.

Care is delivered with a trauma-informed approach and a focus on safety. The unit operates 7p-7:30a with every other weekend/holiday coverage, and a 12-month nurse residency is offered for new grads.

Qualifications

• ADN required; BSN preferred.
• CCNE or ACEN accreditation.
• Current license to practice registered nursing in the State of Ohio.
• One-year recent RN experience for PRN/weekend option; experience in related areas may be required.

• Provide nursing care based on basic principles and nursing theory.
• Coordinate and/or delegate nursing care and manage resources for patients and families.
• Deliver high-quality, evidence-based care in a 14-bed detox unit.

Job description

Full-Time, 36 hrs/week, 7p-7:30a, every other weekend/holiday

Primary patient population: This acute care unit provides alcohol and chemical dependency detoxification for adults.

Unit Size: 14-bed unit; private rooms

Target Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:6 or 1:7 subject to change based on census numbers and patient care needs

Highlights: Looking for nurses who are empathetic, compassionate, patient, and observant with a trauma-informed approach

Shift differential: $5/hr shift differential for nights; $1/hr for weekends

12-month nurse residency program for new grads

Summary

Guided by knowledge of the basic principles of nursing based on the biological, physical, and psycho-social sciences, utilizes judgment supported by evidence and nursing theory in the delivery of nursing care. Provides, coordinates and/or delegates nursing care and manages resources in the delivery of care for patients, the family of patients and the community, with the goal of attaining, maintaining and restoring optimum health.

Formal Education Required

• Associate’s degree in Nursing (ADN) required, BSN preferred
• Graduate of a program of professional nursing that is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN)
• Current license to practice registered nursing in the State of Ohio

Experience and Training Required

• PRN RN’s must have at least one-year recent experience in the area of practice.
• One year of related RN experience is required for weekend option positions.
• Additional related previous experience and/or preparation may be required for specialty units.

Other Skills, Competencies and Qualifications

• Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
• Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
• Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
• Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours.
• Requires exposure to communicable disease, body fluids, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, and other potentially hazardous conditions common to a clinical environment, such as risk of falls, strains, etc.
• Maintains current Basic Life Support certification; All nurses new to critical care, progressive care, medical telemetry, PACU, and ED must successfully complete Advanced Cardiac Life Support within the first six months and maintain current card. Experienced RNs hired into areas requiring ACLS are expected to have an ACLS certification upon hire or must be completed within six weeks of hire.

Population Specific Competency

• Additional education or certifications may be required for specialty areas (i.e. PALS, NIH, Non-Violet Crisis Intervention, etc.).
• Ability to effectively interact with populations of patients/customers with an understanding of their needs for self-respect, dignity and diversity.

Level of Physical Demands

• Heavy: Exerts 50-100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or ten to 20 pounds of force continuously to move objects.
