Job summary

The University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) in Jackson seeks an experienced RN to provide optimum critical care during inter-facility and scene transports. You will diagnose and treat injuries and diseases across adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients while maintaining calm under pressure.

Responsibilities include evaluating and documenting care during transport, ensuring equipment availability, precepting students, and ensuring regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

  • Must be licensed as RN with three (3) years of clinical experience.
  • Certification in neonatal resuscitation required within six (6) months of hire.
  • Basic life support and advanced life support certifications required.

  • Provides physical and psychological comfort to patients and monitors condition during transport.
  • Precepts medical students, residents, and paramedic students.

Description

Job Description: To provide optimum critical/emergency care to sick or injured patients transported by aircraft or other vehicle to UMMC or other designated facilities. Knowledge of the information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat injuries and disease for adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients. Knowledge of agents, equipment, procedures, and techniques for the provision of emergency and critical care nursing for inter-facility and scene transports. Verbal and written communication skills. Ability to remain calm in emergency conditions. Ability to provide physical and psychological treatment and comfort to patients. Ability to withstand exposure to noise, external weather conditions, and work in high altitudes. Ability to maintain and comply with weight and lifting restrictions and requirements. Ability to fill shifts at Jackson UMMC campusor remote site as required.

  • Precepts medical students, residents, and paramedic students.
  • Ensures equipment and supplies are available and functional and reports any equipment failures.
  • Promotes a positive image of UMMC by participating in community outreach programs.
  • Ensures regulatory compliance of patient care provided during flight transport. Prepares and maintains applicable reports and documentation.
  • Evaluates, plans, provides, and documents care for patients in a disaster, transport (air/ground), and/or hospital environment.

Physical and Environmental Demands:

Requires constant exposure to unpleasant or disagreeable physical environment such as high noise level and exposure to heat and cold, constant handling or working with potentially dangerous equipment, constant exposure to biohazardous conditions such as risk of radiation exposure, blood borne pathogens, fumes or airborne particles, and/or toxic or caustic chemicals which mandate attention to safety considerations, frequent working hours significantly beyond regularly scheduled hours, constant travelling to offsite locations, constant activities subject to significant volume changes of a seasonal/clinical nature, constant work produced subject to precise measures of quantity and quality, frequent bending, frequent lifting and carrying more than 100 pounds, frequent climbing, frequent crawling, frequent crouching/stooping, constant driving, frequent kneeling, frequent pushing/pulling, frequent reaching, frequent sitting, frequent standing, frequent twisting, and frequent walking. (occasional-upto 20%, frequent-from 21% to 50%, constant-51% or more)

Requirements

Must be licensed as RN for three (3) years. Maximum weight of 250 pounds when fully clothed. Individual must be able to lift a patient weighing 250 pounds onto a stretcher and to carry said patient and stretcher for a minimum of fifty (50) feet and load patient and stretcher into a helicopter with the help of another provider.

Certifications, Licenses or Registration required:

Valid RN license. Alabama and Louisiana RN license preferred. Basic life support, advanced cardiac life support, pediatric advanced life support, NIMS (ICS 100 and 700) and either TNCC or BTLS or PHTLS or ITLS required. Certification in neonatal resuscitation required within six (6) months of hire. ABLS and ASLS certification preferred. Specialty certification such as CEN, CCCRN, CFRN or CTRN required.
