Job summary

TEEMA Solutions Group seeks an experienced RNFA to organize and facilitate patient care in the Operating Room at our Bakersfield, CA facility. The role involves coordinating care between surgeon, anesthesiologist and staff, and serving as a first assistant for procedures granted privileges.

The candidate must have RNFA training, CA RN licensure, and CNOR; CPR/BLS is required, with ACLS recommended. Prior perioperative experience is preferred; AORN membership is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Completion of an RNFA program that meets AORN standards.
  • Two years' perioperative nursing experience: Preferred
  • RN license in the state of practice: Required
  • CRNFA certification in the state of practice: Preferred
  • CPR certification or BLS certification required
  • CNOR certification: Required
  • PEARS/PALS certification: Preferred
  • AORN membership: Preferred
  • BLS certification: Required or AH policy compliant

Responsibilities

  • Performs circulating and scrubbing duties.
  • Verbalizes surgical site/side before induction of anesthesia.
  • Counts sponges, needles, sharps and instruments per policy.
  • Handles and dissects tissues with the surgeon.
  • Clamps blood vessels and assists with vessel ligation.
  • Sutures muscle, fascia, subcutaneous and skin.
  • Places drains when indicated.
  • Assists with cannulation and decannulation as needed.
  • Assists with patient transfer, positioning and draping.
  • Maintains aseptic technique and corrects breaks.
  • Interprets patient data to guide procedures.
  • Mentors and leads staff; supports cost-effective practice.
  • Documents nursing diagnoses, plan of care, interventions and response.
  • Adheres to hospital vaccination and policy requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

In-Office | Bakersfield, CA, United States

10 hours mid-shift. 0630-5 pm. Call Schedule - Weekday end of shift till 11 pm, at least 1 day a week. At least 1 continuous weekend (Friday-Monday 6:30 am) per 6-week period.

Hospital Total Bed Count: 240 Unit Bed Count: 8 ORs Staffing on Unit: 0630-2300- on call staff after 2300 Days: 35 Nights: 1700-2300 – 18 will taper down staff after 9 pm Weekends: 6 Call Required? At least 1 per week (end of shift -11PM) ; weekend(Friday-Sunday) at least 1 weekend for 6 schedule week Floating to other units Required? Yes, if needed. Float to other AH surgery area around. AHDL, AHTV, OPSC and AHSB Weekend Coverage Required? Only for on call Medication System: Pyxis EMR System: Cerner(Surginet) but going to Epic on (/1/2026 Lift Teams: We use ofu Perioperative Assistant and other staff in the OR Pharmacy Hours: 24/7 Phlebotomy available on unit? 24/7 Transport Team: 0630-11pm Unit Secretary on Unit: none Special Equipment Used on This Unit: Hannah table, O-Arm, Medtronic Stealth, Jackson Table, Mako System Special Procedures Performed on This Unit: Davinci Procedure, MIS lumbar cases, Open Heart cases Scrubs: Provided. Staff comes in with street clothes or scrubs but they need to change in the unit for surgical scrubs. They need to change out to street clothes if staff goes out the building

Job Summary

Organizes and facilitates the patient while in the Operating Room (OR).

Coordinates the overall care of patient between surgeon, anesthesiologist and room staff.

Functions as a first assistant during surgical incision, excision, and repair of pathology throughout the perioperative period on procedures for which privileges have been granted.

Participates in preoperative assessment and planning for selected surgical patients in collaboration with the healthcare team members in the preoperative location.

Regularly demonstrates subject matter expertise regarding medication, treatment and patient care standards.

Job Requirements

Education and Work Experience: Completion of an RNFA program that meets AORN standards: Required

Two years' perioperative nursing experience: Preferred

Licenses/Certifications: Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of practice: Required

Certified Registered Nurse First Assistant (CRNFA) certification in the state of practice: Preferred

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy: Required

Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) certification: Required

Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Status (PEARS)/Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy: Preferred

Association of perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN) membership: Preferred

Facility Specific License/Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy: Required

AHA-ACLS or ARC-ALS: Required

Essential Functions

Performs circulating and scrubbing duties.

Verbally confirms surgical site/side before induction of anesthesia.

Accurately performs all sponge, needle, sharp and instrument counts at appropriate time and according to department policy.

Handles and dissects tissues in collaboration with the surgeon.

Clamps blood vessels, coagulates bleeding points, ligates vessels, and performs other procedures in collaboration with the surgeon.

Sutures muscle, fascia, subcutaneous, and skin tissue in collaboration with the surgeon.

Places drains as surgically indicated.

Assists with cannulation and decannulation procedures, if indicated.

Assists with transferring the patient to and from the operating room, positioning, prepping and draping.

Provides patient with safe and aseptic environment by applying the principles of aseptic technique.

Takes corrective action to rectify breaks in aseptic technique.

Inspects sterile items before opening and maintains sterility of items during delivery to sterile field.

Obtains and interprets patient data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, as needed.

Develops and implements action plan for practice changes to enhance patient outcomes.

Maintains appropriate traffic patterns and personnel around the sterile field.

Applies appropriate methods and parameters of sterilization/disinfection.

Observes for general cleanliness of the Operating Room and takes appropriate action to amend, as necessary.

Prepares instruments according to physician preference and scheduled procedure.

Utilizes specific knowledge and skills in a surgical environment to assist the surgeon.

Documents relevant data, including but not limited to nursing diagnoses, patient's plan of care, intervention and response, and discharge plan.

Mentors, develops, inspires, educates and leads staff members in patient care setting.

Enhances efficiency and cost effectiveness by identifying opportunities to decrease costs, as applicable to the job.

Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
