Job Description

RN First Assistant (RNFA) within our Operating Room at Providence St. Jude Medical Center in Fullerton, CA. This position is Full‑time and will work 12‑hour day shifts.

The Registered Nurse First Assistant independently uses the nursing process to safely, therapeutically, and efficiently care for patients requiring surgical intervention. Using information from a variety of sources, the RNFA assesses, plans, implements, identifies outcomes, and evaluates the patient’s plan of care. The RNFA collaborates with the surgeon and the healthcare team to perform a safe operative procedure with an optimal outcome for the patient. As defined by the RNFA Standardized Procedure, the RNFA renders direct patient care and maintains practice privileges through the Medical Staffing office. When not assisting in surgery, the RNFA performs circulating and/or scrub duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Graduate from nursing school with a diploma, Associate Degree, or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, or
  • Bachelor’s Degree – Graduate from nursing school with a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, or
  • Hired as a result of a unit transfer from Heritage: Graduate from nursing school with a diploma, Associate Degree, or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, or
  • Hired as a ministry transfer: Currently enrolled in a BSN program with an expected graduation date within 6 months of hire.
  • California Registered Nurse License upon hire.
  • National Provider BLS – American Heart Association upon hire.
  • Three (3) years of diversified perioperative nursing experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two (2) years of diversified RNFA experience.
