Job summary

Kettering Health Network in Ohio is seeking an RN First Assistant (RNFA) for a full-time, first-shift role to support surgical teams. The RNFA assists physicians in surgery and performs defined tasks under supervision, requiring an Ohio RN license and OR experience.

Ideal candidates have completed an RNFA course, current BLS, and unit-based ACLS/NRP/PALS as needed. CNOR is preferred. This position emphasizes safety and teamwork within a not-for-profit system.

Qualifications

• Current RN license in Ohio.
• Minimum 24 months RN experience in an OR.
• Successful completion of approved RNFA course.
• Current BLS certification.
• ACLS, NRP, and PALS as determined by unit scope.

Responsibilities

• Assists physicians in surgery and may perform specific significant surgical tasks under supervision.
• Perform duties such as opening/closing sites, exposure, graft harvesting, tissue dissection, implanting devices.
• Under supervision, applies/removes splints or casts, places Foley catheters, IVs, arterial lines, and local anesthesia as needed.

Responsibilities & Requirements

RNFirst Assist (RNFA) job duties:

• Assists physicians in surgery and may perform specific significant surgical tasks under professional supervision.
• Surgical tasks include, but are not limited to, opening and closing surgical sites, exposure of the surgical site, harvesting grafts, dissecting tissue, removing tissue, implanting devices, and altering tissues.
• Under professional supervision, theRNFA performs task which include, but are not limited to, applying and removing splints and/or casts, placing Foley catheters, placing IV’s, placing arterial lines, administering local anesthesia, and other such procedures as requested and necessary.

Applicants Must Have:

• Current RN license in State of Ohio
• Minimum of 24 months RN experience in an OR required.
• Successful completion of approved RNFA course
• Current BLS certification
• ACLS, NRP, and PALS as determined by unit scope of practice

Preferred Qualifications

Achievement of CNOR certification, CRNA preferred
