Job summary

Summa Health System, Wadsworth Campus, is seeking an experienced RN for the Emergency Department. The role focuses on delivering high-quality patient care, coordinating nursing activities and supporting the health of patients and families in a fast-paced ED setting.

Guided by nursing fundamentals, you will provide, coordinate and/or delegate care while managing resources to optimize patient outcomes. The position is full-time, 36 hours per week, with shift 7:00 a.m.

Qualifications

• ADN required, BSN preferred
• Graduate CCNE/ACEN accredited program
• Current Ohio RN license
• PRN RNs: at least 1 year recent experience
• One year RN experience for weekend option
• ACLS required within 6 months (new hires)
• Additional certs may be required for specialty areas
• Population-specific competency

Summary: Guided by knowledge of the basic principles of nursing based on the biological, physical, and psycho-social sciences, utilizes judgment supported by evidence and nursing theory in the delivery of nursing care. Provides, coordinates and/or delegates nursing care and manages resources in the delivery of care for patients, the family of patients and the community, with the goal of attaining, maintaining and restoring optimum health.

Formal Education Required:

• a. Associate’s degree in Nursing (ADN) required, BSN preferred
• b. Graduate of a program of professional nursing that is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN)
• c. Current license to practice registered nursing in the State of Ohio

Experience and Training Required:

• a. PRN RN’s must have at least one-year recent experience in the area of practice.
• b. One year of related RN experience is required for weekend option positions.
• c. Additional related previous experience and/or preparation maybe required for specialty units.

Other Skills, Competencies and Qualifications:

• a. Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
• b. Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time
• c. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range
• d. Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours.
• e. Requires exposure to communicable disease, body fluids, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, and other potentially hazardous conditions common to a clinical environment, such as risk of falls, strains, etc.
• f. Maintains current Basic Life Support certification; All nurses new to critical care, progressive care, medical telemetry, PACU, and ED must successfully complete Advanced Cardiac Life Support within the first six months and maintain current card. Experienced RNs hired into areas requiring ACLS are expected to have an ACLS certification upon hire or must be completed within six weeks of hire.
• g. Additional education or certifications may be required for specialty areas (i.e. PALS, NIH, Non-Violet Crisis Intervention, etc.).
• h. Population Specific Competency:
• i. Ability to effectively interact with populations of patients/customers with an understanding of their needs for self-respect, dignity and diversity

Level of Physical Demands:

• a. Heavy: Exerts 50-100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or ten to 20 pounds of force continuously to move objects.

Many factors, such as years of relevant experience and geographical location are considered when determining the starting rate of pay.
