Job summary

Description:The RN implements professional nursing practice centered on the patient as a whole person.The focus is on creating a caring environment focused on healing and wellness.Nursing practices are based on evidence, current research, hospital policies and procedures, regulatory standards, and professional guidelines.Clinical decision-making incorporates all phases of the nursing process, critical thinking, and creativity.

Nursing excellence is promoted through relationships among nursing staff and across disciplines.Responsibilities include coordinating and providing direct patient care activities.This includes the provision of nursing rounds, assessments, treatments, facilitating admissions, transfers, and discharges.Patient and family-centered education and care coordination are also essential.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Performing and documenting a comprehensive assessment in accordance with RN scope of practice and policies/procedures.
  • Considering the patient's culture, age, and developmental level.
  • Identifying patient risk factors and documenting presenting complaints.
  • Collecting objective and subjective data relevant to patient care.
  • Developing a problem list and prioritizing patient needs based on input from the healthcare team.
  • Fully implementing patient care therapies and procedures within established policies and guidelines.
  • Communicating procedures and treatments to patients and families to alleviate stress and discomfort.
  • Recognizing and responding to changes in patient condition appropriately.
  • Conducting ongoing assessments and documenting responses to procedures and therapies.
  • Delegating tasks appropriately and overseeing team members in patient care activities.
  • Monitoring the accuracy of delegated patient care provided by team members.
  • Identifying and addressing educational needs of patients related to prioritized problems.
  • Facilitating timely patient discharge processes and coordinating with Case Management.
  • Actively participating in unit-based activities that support organizational values.
  • Promoting a positive group dynamic and healing environment.
  • Ensuring nursing excellence in accordance with accepted standards and evidence-based practices.
  • Participating in quality improvement activities and core measures such as patient satisfaction and monitoring of documentation.
  • Utilizing a holistic perspective regarding patient care.
