You will coordinate staffing, assignments, and patient flow, mentor staff, and collaborate with management to uphold regulatory standards and patient safety. A BSN is required; bilingual skills are a plus.

Qualifications

  • BSN required; individuals hired without a BSN must complete a degree within 5 years of hire.
  • Minimum 3 years of LDRP nursing experience with regulatory guidelines; at least 1 year in Clinical Unit Supervisor role.
  • Bilingual Spanish preferred; basic computer skills; current BLS & ACLS; advanced fetal monitoring; MAB within 90 days; EMR experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Act as primary liaison to Medical Staff and other personnel.
  • Provide care to laboring patients and postpartum mother-baby pairs.
  • Collaborate with Care Management for discharge planning and patient transfers.
  • Monitor staffing needs and manage unit assignments and bed placement.
  • Lead unit operations to ensure safe, high-quality, compassionate patient care.

RN Clinical Supervisor L&D Days Full time

POSITION SUMMARY
The Clinical Unit Supervisor is a skilled and experienced professional Registered Nurse (RN) responsible for excellence in the clinical practice of nursing and the management of patient care. Reporting to the Nurse Manager of the LDRP, the Clinical Unit Supervisor has 12 hour accountability for organizing, planning, directing, coordinating, and providing high quality, individualized patient/family centered care based on the Watson Model of Care, including the identification and demonstration of abilities to meet special needs and considerations of Age and Population Specific awareness. The Clinical Unit Supervisor will promote the maximum growth and development of the employees and assure patient advocacy under the direction of the Nurse Manager and Director for Maternal Child Health Nursing. This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the Mission of Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital. It is expected that the employee will demonstrate behavior consistent with the Core Values. The employee shall support Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital’s strategic plan and the goals and direction of the quality and performance improvement process activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Demonstrates positive interpersonal relationships while acting as the primary liaison to Medical Staff and other personnel.

2. Demonstrates proficiency in taking care of the laboring patient and postpartum couplet care (Mother and baby).

3. Demonstrates teamwork and collaboration with all parties when facilitating admissions and transfers. Collaborates with Care Management in planning for discharge and/or transfer of patients.

4. Anticipates staffing needs and moves proactively to respond to them.

5. Assumes shift accountability by setting measurable goals and objectives so that sensitive, caring, optimum quality, and cost effective care is delivered in an environment of compassion, and respect through effective and efficient teamwork and rounding.

6. Assigns patient beds based upon patient condition, physician orders, unit capacity, and available staffing.

7. Determines appropriate assignments of unit personnel on each shift, by considering each employee's skills, abilities, competencies, experiences and expertise, given such factors as staffing ratio, patient census, acuity level, complexity of treatment, and language needs.

8. Assigns break times for each employee and relieves each licensed personnel for breaks in compliance with Title 22 regulations.

9. Delivers direct patient care at times in response to the needs of the unit in accordance with the duties and responsibilities of a staff Registered Nurse.

10. Maintains a safe and clean environment that complies with regulatory standards including Patient Safety Goals.

11. Maintains a positive work environment, acts as a good role model for the staff and promotes service excellence that will maintain/improve customer satisfaction.

12. Actively resolves complaints and/or conflicts involving patients, patients' visitors/families and physicians.

13. Assists in the interview process of applicants for unit positions and makes recommendations to the Nurse Manager. Ensure that all new hires have competency and orientation packet completed within 90 days from start date.

14. Contributes to the counseling process as directed by the Nurse Manager.

15. Assist with the performance evaluation of employees and make recommendations as needed.

16. Responsible for notifying Administration, Nurse Manager, House Supervisor and Risk Manager of risk events and follow up as appropriate.

17. Participates in the implementation of the unit specific Quality and Performance Improvement Plan, completes monitoring forms and reports findings to the Nurse Manager.

18. Maintains intimate knowledge of Maternal Child Health policies and procedures and acts as a resource for the RN's on the units.

19. Assists in the Care Collaborative System training for new employees.

20. Assist with unit orientation of new employees.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

A. Education

  • Bachelor of Sciences degree in nursing (individuals hired without a BSN will be required to complete a degree program within 5 years of their hire date)

B. Qualifications/Experience

  • Minimum of three (3) years of clinical nursing experience in LDRP nursing with regard to regulatory guidelines and standard of practice; minimum one (1) year of Clinical Unit Supervisor experience. Internal candidates will be considered at management’s discretion.
  • Certification in Maternal Child Health Nursing preferred.

C. Special Skills/Knowledge

  • Bilingual skills preferred (Spanish)
  • Basic computer skills
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Advanced Fetal Monitoring Required. (AWHONN or NCC preferred)
  • Current Managing Aggressive Behavior (MAB) within 90 days of hire or notification of requirement
  • Experience with an Electronic Medical Record preferred
