Description

The new Intermediate Neurosciences and Otolaryngology/Head & Neck Surgery (ENT) Unit is an 18‑bed intermediate care unit efficiently designed to provide high quality specialized and compassionate care. Staff members are challenged by the pace of the unit and the great variety of the patients they serve. Teamwork and interdisciplinary collaboration are hallmarks for this unit while providing expert “Carolina Care” to patients and families we serve. Our ONE GREAT TEAM facilitates admissions, treatments, transfers, and discharges 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This unit is scheduled to open in Summer 2026.

Summary

Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reporting and accountable to the Nurse Manager/Director, the Clinical Nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting.

Job Type

This position is a per diem, at‑will position that requires the ability to work at least one 12‑hour shift every two weeks and one summer and one winter holiday each year. This position does not receive employer benefits.

• Evaluation of Care – identifies expected patient outcomes; seeks guidance to revise plan of care; collaborates with interdisciplinary team; communicates relevant information to promote continuity of care.
• Implementation – demonstrates competence in care of patients with complex problems, including physical, psychosocial, educational and safety aspects; performs bedside point‑of‑care testing; utilizes organizational and nursing standards, policies and procedures; prioritizes care; consults appropriate resources promptly.
• Leadership – develops goals for professional growth; achieves objectives within timetables; understands interdepartmental collaboration; participates in unit goals and improvement activities; uses communication systems; promotes cost‑effective care; gives feedback; maintains safe, clean, secure environment.
• Patient Assessment – prioritizes care based on assessment data; includes physical, psychosocial, educational and safety needs; synthesizes data before communicating; anticipates discharge needs; builds relationships with families.
• Planning – collaborates with patient/family to prepare or update plan of care; uses multidisciplinary resources; communicates effectively; addresses cultural and ethnic issues; prioritizes tasks.
• Research – reads relevant journals; brings ideas and questions to staff for assessment of applicability.

Education Requirements

• Graduation from a school of professional nursing.

Licensure/Certification Requirements

• Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.

Professional Experience Requirements

• One year of relevant and current experience.
