Job description

RN Clinical Nurse II- Burn Intensive Care Unit

The NC Jaycee Burn Center is a 21‑bed ICU capable unit, specializing in thermal, chemical, electrical and inhalation burn injuries. It is an American Burn Association Verified Adult and Pediatric Burn Center and caters to a mixed adult and pediatric patient population across all acuity levels. The team emphasizes burn outreach, education, community partnerships, and burn after‑care life‑long survivor support.

Our nursing team works closely with many others to achieve our goals of restoration of health and function and provides an interdepartmental collaborative approach for optimized recovery of the burn patient. The staff have the opportunity to provide care at the most critical level and be part of a team that works to assist a burn‑injured patient through all phases of recovery.

This position is 36 hours per week, night shift, with self‑scheduling to meet individual and department needs. It offers excellent benefits including health and retirement plans as well as generous PTO accruals.

Responsibilities
  • Education: Identify and meet learning needs of self; attend education programs based on needs; use patient education materials relevant to the patient population; assess readiness to learn of patients, families, and caregivers; evaluate developmental level and factors affecting learning.
  • Evaluation of Care: Identify expected patient outcomes; seek guidance for revision of care plans; participate in interdisciplinary discussions to evaluate patient care; communicate relevant information to promote continuity of care.
  • Implementation: Demonstrate competence in caring for patients with complex problems, including physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety aspects; perform bedside point‑of‑care testing as required; utilize organization policies and procedures; prioritize care; consult resources for complex or high‑risk cases.
  • Leadership: Develop goals to promote professional growth; meet or renegotiate objectives; know activities that facilitate interdepartmental collaboration; participate in unit goal development and performance improvement; use communication systems; promote cost‑effective care; give feedback; ensure a safe, clean, secure environment.
  • Patient Assessment: Recognize data from complex situations to set care priorities; integrate physical, psychosocial, educational, safety needs; synthesize data for communication; anticipate discharge needs; build relationships that empower families.
  • Planning: Collaborate with patients/families to prepare or update care plans; use multidisciplinary resources; employ comprehensive communication; address cultural and ethnic issues; prioritize tasks for complex patients.
  • Research: Read relevant journals; bring ideas and questions to staff for applicability assessment.
Qualifications
  • Education Requirements: Graduation from a professional nursing school; if hired after January 6 2014, enrolled within four years of employment and obtain a B.S. in Nursing or an M.S. in Nursing within seven years.
  • Licensure/Certification: Licensed RN in North Carolina; Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification.
  • Professional Experience: One (1) year of nursing experience.
  • Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Ability to coordinate and deliver patient care using the nursing process; proficiency in complex problem management; strong communication with interdisciplinary teams; commitment to continuous learning and evidence‑based practice.
