Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Clinical Educator is responsible for needs assessment, analysis, planning, implementation, and evaluation of orientation, education, and staff development activities for clinical staff of patient care. This position works collaboratively with management, physicians, and staff to define, coordinate, and analyze the orientation and continuing educational needs and activities for all staff members of the patient care units to assure a foundation of competency for patient care and nursing practice. Planning, designing, coordinating, and evaluating skills are utilized in the review and development of relevant orientation and education programs and activities. This position requires the ability to motivate all skill levels of staff with creative and adult learning methods and to integrate team building and caring actions in all learning models.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Current Registered Nurse licensure.
  • Certification: Certification in hospice and palliative nursing is desired. BLS certification is required.
  • Experience: 5+ years clinical nursing experience is preferred.
  • 3+ years long term care experience in hospice or home health is desired.
  • Core Competencies: Knowledge of Medicare Conditions of Participation, State regulations and clinical aspects of hospice care. Previous experience in staff development or clinical teaching is preferred. Experience with assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluation of continuing education activities. Proficient is Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.
  • Skills: Excellent communication skills, ability to move from one task to another with little notice. Ability to work effectively and efficiently under target deadlines, high volumes and multiple interruptions.
  • Other: Valid driver's license and auto insurance.
Functions And Responsibilities
  • Develops, oversees, deliver or coordinate, implement, and evaluate the program’s Educational Plan to assure that staff demonstrates excellent clinical performance, professional development, and knowledge about Hospice care to assure compliance with all legal regulations and policies.
  • Improves the quality and appropriateness of patient care by annual evaluations of nursing care.
  • Serves as a clinical role model, teacher, and coach.
  • Collaborates with service line managers to coordinate employee orientation and mentoring of new clinical and non-clinical staff.
  • Plans and coordinates annual reviews for all staff including ongoing competencies and field supervision as necessary.
  • Utilizes problem-solving techniques to address areas of non-compliance.
  • Assess, develop, and implement a wide variety of clinical education methods and approaches such as in-person presentations and in-services, online training, webinars, periodic skill fairs, and demonstrations.
  • Attends all required meetings and in-services.
  • Develops all training documentation for purposes of compliance and quality assurance needs for employee training files.
  • Any other job duties and tasks deemed necessary and appropriate.
