Job description

The incumbent is accountable for delivering nursing care using the nursing process, applying clinical knowledge and independent judgment to provide quality patient outcomes. The role involves assessment, interpretation, and management of patient data, ensuring care meets age‑specific needs and promoting growth across the lifespan.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Current Registered Nurse license issued by the state where services will be provided, or a current multi‑state Registered Nurse license through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
  • Must possess a current temporary RN permit as required by the state board where services will be provided.
  • State‑specific requirements:
    • MD: No temporary permit issued. Must provide documentation of recent graduation from a School of Nursing and obtain a permanent RN license within 90 days of graduation.
    • OH: No temporary permit issued. Ohio nurses must be currently licensed.
    • PA: Current PA Registered Nurse Temporary Permit. Must obtain permanent licensure within one (1) year of graduation.
    • WV: Current WV Registered Nurse Grad Permit. Must obtain permanent licensure within 180 days from graduation.
  • Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred, or Associate of Science in Nursing Degree (ASN) or Diploma; currently enrolled in a BSN program with BSN completion within 5 years of hire.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provides direct patient care within the ambulatory setting using the nursing process and within scope of practice.
  • Performs preliminary assessment of patients through observation and chart review to facilitate appropriate follow‑up with the health care team.
  • Evaluates unstable or complex patient care situations and facilitates appropriate intervention.
  • Implements appropriate clinical decisions and demonstrates use of expert peers and/or management as applicable.
  • Accepts accountability and uses independent nursing judgment for care provided by self and health care providers to whom care is delegated.
  • Demonstrates the appropriate use of standards, effective use of resources, and evaluation of patient response in delivering patient care.
  • Uses standards of care and practice to guide care delivery.
  • Base decisions on relevant scientific principles, established standards of care, and/or research findings; seeks assistance when unable to perform safely and independently.
  • Determines and revises priorities for direct/indirect patient care activities based on acuity and resources, updating the daily care plan to include appropriate algorithms for safe patient handling.
  • Uses established patient care support systems including documentation, communication, and information.
  • Responsible for educational instruction to patients and families with health care needs.
  • Identifies teaching/learning needs of patients.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of patient and family teaching and documents in patient charts.
  • Assists in orientation of new employees according to unit orientation plan.
  • Applies information gained from educational experiences when providing patient care and instruction.
  • Assumes responsibility for the development of others.
  • Engages in mentoring and networking activities to promote professional development.
  • Fosters integration of staff and/or students into the health care team and facilitates incorporation of the unit’s mission, values, and vision.
  • Demonstrates skill in managing conflict situations.
  • Promotes trusting relationships and open, honest communication at the unit level.
  • Engages in exchange of information relevant to the specific patient assignment.
  • Interacts with various members of the health care team to meet patient care needs.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities as appropriate.
Physical Requirements
  • Minimize manual lifting of patients; limit safe patient handling to 35 pounds; all transfers, lifts and repositioning completed with lift equipment or other patient handling aids as indicated.
  • Heavy or hard work requiring strength, stamina, lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, and carrying of materials and equipment weighing 40+ pounds.
