Winona Health Clinic in Winona, MN is hiring an RN for Chemo Infusion at 0.8 FTE. Shifts are weekday between 7:30 am and 5:00 pm with a wage range of $33.87–$41.84 per hour based on education and experience. Responsibilities include direct patient care, triage, medication administration, and EMR documentation in Cerner.

The RN will participate in coordination of chemotherapy regimens, patient assessments, and safety protocols, with potential to work at other Winona Health locations as needed.

Qualifications

  • RN licensure in good standing with state board.
  • Certification in CPR & BLS is required.
  • Chemotherapy administration knowledge and safety protocols.
  • Familiarity with cerner EMR and infusion care workflows.
  • Chemo certification due within 2 years of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care for oncology and infusion patients.
  • Assess and triage patients to ensure appropriate care setting and staffing.
  • Administer medications, IV therapies, and monitor patient responses.

RN - Chemo Infusion
0.8 FTE, 64 Hours Bi Weekly
Weekday shifts between 7:30 am and 5:00 pm
Wage Range: $33.87 - $41.84, Based on Education and Experience

Position Overview:

The RN is responsible for the care of clinic infusion patients. The RN will assess and triage patients to assure appropriateness of care in the right setting and by the right staff. The RN will provide patient care including but not limited to rooming of patients, performing assessments and gathering of data, interpretation of assessments, implementation of therapeutic interventions, and evaluation of those interventions. Patient information will be entered into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). Direct patient care will include but not limited to taking vital signs, IV medication administration, treatments, monitoring of patients, scheduling and coordination of care. Must be able to assist at other Winona Health Clinic locations if necessary.

  • Provide the highest level of patient care coordination in compliance with RN licensure to include but not limited to:
  • Physical assessments of patients.
  • Triaging of and presenting patients for appropriateness of care.
  • Taking vital signs, monitoring patients, and communication with onsite and offsite physicians/providers.
  • Insertion, Discontinuation and Administration of medications, fluids, and blood products through various intravenous routes as prescribed.
  • Discontinuing disposable and mechanical chemotherapy pumps.
  • Accessing and discontinuing central lines for the use of infusions and/or lab draws.
  • Performing therapuetic phlebotomy.
  • Monitoring patient after receiving a thoracentesis.
  • Administering medications based on fluid removed after a paracentesis.
  • Coordination of order sets, diagnotyic testing, and additional treatments and/or therapies ordered.
  • Ensure proper patient follow-up and documentation to include but not limited to:
  • Inputting of all applicable data into the EMR (Cerner)
  • Contacting patients with lab results and medication changes as ordered by the physician.
  • Determine appropriate scheduling for care of chemo patient and those patients referred for specialty care based on clinical data specific to each individual case.
  • Ensuring nursing supplies and medications are properly ordered and available.
  • Proficiency for laboratory tests as required, drawing samples via access devices.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Skills and Experience:

Required:

  • CPR & BLS Certification.
  • Responsible for care of oncology and infusion patients in the clinic setting including case management.
  • Knowledge of patient diagnoses, the chemotherapeutic and biotherapeutic agents and other cancer treatment agents used in caring for patients.
  • Knowledge of the regimens and schedules for medications that are administered.
  • Knowledge of all safety requirements to handle and administer these agents.
  • Knowledge of appropriate labs needed for each type of treatment and how to interpret and act on them.
  • Chemo certification required with-in 2 years of hire.
  • Knowledge of risks and benefits of treatment modalities and requirement to provide education to the patient and family.
  • Ability to access/flush ports and care for pediatric to geriatric patients.

Preferred:

  • Oncology Nursing Society Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Certificate required within 1 year.
  • Oncology Nursing Certification (ONC) through Oncology Nursing Society desired within 2 years

Clinical Outpatient environment. Fast paced and challenging environment with constantly changing reimbursement rules and regulations. Multi-tasking ability required due to the wide variety of assigned duties. Not unusual to deal with upset customers experiencing frustrations due to the complexity inherent in today’s healthcare payment system.

Required Work Schedule:

  • Weekday day shifts typically between 7:30 AM and 5 PM.
  • Shifts could range from 4-8 hours in length depending on scheduling needs. Staff must remain flexible.
