Job summary

Brodstone Healthcare is seeking a full-time, day shift nurse leader to coordinate nursing care and guide staff across departments. You will lead patient care teams, participate in teaching with patients and families, and work with ancillary departments to uphold professional nursing standards.

Job description

Coordinates the activities of the nursing personnel and is responsible for the overall operations of the nursing staff. Coordinates total nursing care for patients, participants in patient and family teaching and provides leadership by working cooperatively with ancillary departments and other patient team personnel in maintaining standards for professional nursing practice in the clinical setting. Responsibilities require knowledge of hospital and nursing policies and procedures, allowing independent judgment in their interpretation. This is a full-time day shift opportunity!

Primary Job Duties

  • Assists in maintaining the Hospital's and Nursing Services' philosophy through effective nursing care and by executing the nursing process.
  • Assigns nursing care team members in accordance with the patient's needs and the personnel's capabilities and qualifications and assigns other duties as needed.
  • Directs, supervises and evaluates nursing care provided to patients.
  • Collaborates with providers and multidisciplinary professional staff to implement patient care.
  • Serve as a resource to staff for solving clinical problems.
  • Investigates and follows up on the availability of adequate materials and supplies. Participates in economical utilization of supplies and ensures that equipment is maintained in a clean and safe manner.
  • Reviews the need for and recommends changes in staffing patterns.
  • Maintains the standards of nursing care and implements the policies and procedures of the hospital and nursing department.
  • Maintains effective communications with the staff and nursing administration, establishes and maintains communications and utilizes teaching opportunities with patients and their significant individuals.
  • Assists in coordinating the activities of Nursing Services with the other services of the hospital.
  • Recommends to CNO/SDON the purchase of materials or equipment for the improvement of nursing services.
  • Investigates missing items and charges, establishes responsibility for the missing items and charges and takes corrective action.
  • Promotes good public relations with patients, visitors, and the community.
  • Reports pertinent observations and reactions regarding patients to appropriate person and documents those observations accurately and concisely.
  • Consistently investigates patient complaints, investigates patient care incidents and completes required forms.
  • Assures safety of all staff and patients through continuous monitoring of all departments for compliance with infection control programs, policies, and procedures as appropriate.
  • Responds to emergency situations (RRT, Code Blue) and assists as necessary.
  • Ensures calls are made with regard to a death and supports staff and families; includes calls to attending and/or consulting provider, county coroner, long term care facilities, funeral director, chaplain, and family or significant others of patients as required.
  • Assists in the orientation of personnel, monitors their nursing skills, and guides and observes staff that may need additional training in procedures at which they are not adept.
  • Maintains proficiency in clinical and administrative skills, assists team members in giving care to patients or administers direct care when professional nursing skills and judgment are needed.
  • Perform duties as descripted in RN job description to assist other nursing personnel with performance of their duties as assigned and as the workload permits.
  • Cooperates with Utilization Review department for the purpose of pre-admission reviews and admission reviews, placement of patients at proper levels of care, and PRO activities. Responsible for above activities when UR department is not staffed.
  • Demonstrates the requisite knowledge, skill and ability to be assigned to all areas of care, as staffing requires. This includes Medical/Surgical, skilled care, obstetrical (antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum), nursery, emergency department, and outpatient services, in addition to above duties and responsibilities.
  • Provides prescribed medical treatment and personal care services to all areas of care, as staffing requires. This includes Medical/Surgical, skilled care, obstetrical (antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum), nursery, emergency department, and outpatient services, in addition to above duties and responsibilities.
  • Attends and participates in departmental meetings / in-services, Brodstone Healthcare quality improvement program, etc. Participate in committees as requested.

  • BLS certification within 3 months of employment

  • PALS within 3 months of employment
  • NRP within 6 months of employment
  • TNCC/ATCN/TNAC within 6 months of employment
  • Preferred
  • Stable within 12 months of employment
