CHRISTUS Health’s 6NT unit, a private 36-bed cardiac care unit, seeks a registered nurse to deliver comprehensive nursing care for cardiac and post-surgical patients in a hands-on, in-person setting. You’ll participate in patient assessment, education, and collaborative care planning on a dynamic team.

The role emphasizes medication administration, telemetry monitoring, and wound/Lab value analysis with opportunities for professional development and leadership within a supportive unit.

Qualifications

Associates Degree from an accredited school of nursing.
1 year of experience in the related nursing specialty preferred.
BLS required
RN License in state of employment or compact.

Responsibilities

Provides routine and complex nursing care following the nursing process.
Administers medications and monitors for side-effects and effectiveness of treatments.
Documents patient history, symptoms, medication, and care given.
Assesses learning needs and provides education to patients, families and/or caregivers.

Job description

6NT is a 36 - private bed unit specializing in cardiac care for patients who have had open heart surgery. We see cardiovascular/thoracic patients that are post-CABG, heart caths, valve replacements, thoracotomies, and many other cardiothoracic surgical procedures. We also see general medical-surgical patients that may have a primary cardiac diagnosis or history with comorbidities that may need telemetry monitoring, as well as those patients needing critical cardiac drips. On 6NT, we train our staff to detect medical issues before they become a problem, so they can respond to those emergent situations quickly and confidently. We have many opportunities for assessments, patient/family teaching, IVs, wound care, lab value analysis and medication administration/management. We encourage communication and collaboration in an environment that is engaging and rewarding for our health care professionals, as well the patients on our unit

The competent Nurse, in the same or similar clinical setting, practices independently and demonstrates an awareness of all relevant aspects of a situation. Provides routine and complex care, with the ability to on long-range goals or plans. Continues to develop the ability to cope with and manage contingencies of clinical nursing. Makes appropriate assignments and delegates to other care providers as a means to help manage the clinical situation.

Consistent with the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, provides nursing care utilizing the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention and evaluation for assigned patients.
Addresses increasingly complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patient and families in accordance with their level of practice.
Using the appropriate protocol, administers medications and treatments; monitors for side-effects and effectiveness of the treatment prescribed.
Documents patient history, symptoms, medication, and care given.
Assess learning needs and provides education to patients, family members and/or care givers; identify issues and resources.
