Job Summary

Hours: 2pm to 10:30pm. 1 weekend per month.

The position supports the Nurse Manager in overseeing daily operations, managing staff, collaborating with the interdisciplinary team, ensuring quality patient care, and providing 24/7 support as appropriate. The role reports to the Nursing Manager or Director.

Qualifications

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required. If the Bachelor’s is not in Nursing, a Master’s degree in Nursing is required.

Licenses & Certifications

• Current Texas State nursing license or temporary/compact license.
• Basic Life Support certification.
• Professional certification in a clinical area or management within one year of exam eligibility.

Experience & Skills

• Three (3) or more years of clinical practice experience.
• Demonstrated leadership experience.

Principal Accountabilities

• Assist in deploying departmental goals supporting the organization’s mission, vision, and values.
• Assist leadership with managerial responsibilities.
• Carry out day‑to‑day operational tasks delegated by the manager/director, including input on hiring, firing, and interviewing.
• Plan, coordinate, and direct effective coordination of care between units, nurses, and providers; assist in staff scheduling.
• Perform effectively in emergency situations; assist with patient care as needed.
• Serve as a resource to staff, acting as mentor and coach to staff, medical personnel, patients, and family members.
• Assist in guiding staff in quality improvement efforts for all shifts; participate in PI projects annually.
• Ensure daily compliance with PI or quality standards; provide verbal disciplinary action as needed and collaborate with leadership on written action.
• Work with personnel to ensure supplies are accessed and used appropriately.
• Provide input to the Nurse Manager/Director on budget preparation.
• Promote intra‑ and interdepartmental communication.
• Maintain strong orientation to service excellence.
• Ensure clinical care aligns with evidence‑based practice.
• Conduct leadership rounds on patients.
• Respond to customer complaints promptly.
• Identify high‑risk social situations and address them appropriately.
• Adhere to all regulatory requirements and Texas Board of Nursing standards.
• Ensure safe care for patients, staff, and visitors while complying with Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and budgetary specifications.
• Promote professional growth and development; serve as preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff.
• Demonstrate commitment to caring for every community member by creating compassionate, personalized experiences.
