Job summary

Optum is hiring a perioperative nurse in Washington (Edmonds) to provide individualized intraoperative care. This role includes planning, implementing, and documenting nursing interventions to support patient safety and positive outcomes.

Responsibilities include patient assessment, sterile technique, coordination of team and supplies, and effective communication with recovery staff to ensure seamless continuity of care.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Active RN license through the Washington State Department of Health.
  • BLS for Healthcare Providers (AHA).
  • ACLS or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire.
  • 6+ months of perioperative nursing experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patient health status to develop individualized perioperative care plans.
  • Implement and document nursing care to ensure patient safety and quality outcomes.
  • Position and prepare patient for procedures, maintaining sterile environment.
  • Coordinate intraoperative team and supplies for efficient flow.

Responsibilities
  • Assess the health status of the patient to develop an individualized plan of care by collecting, categorizing and interpreting data (physical and psychosocial) from documented information, observation, patient/family interview and other health care team members
  • Develop a nursing care plan based on the assessment that includes nursing diagnosis, patient goals and nursing interventions to achieve these goals
  • Implement the nursing care plan to provide optimal individualized care for the patient
  • Instruct the patient and family to assist in achieving optimal health status
  • Document nursing activities to provide a permanent record for continuity of care, quality improvement and professional accountability
  • Identify the patient to ensure that the patient, procedure and operative site correspond
  • Plan, supervise, and assist with the transfer and transport of the patient to protect the patient and personnel from injury
  • Position the patient to provide access to the operative site while maximizing patient safety and comfort
  • Establish and maintain a surgically clean environment to reduce infection risk by applying antisepsis, decontamination, disinfection, sanitation, sterilization, and environmental monitoring
  • Establish and maintain a sterile field by supervising aseptic technique and continual monitoring of the sterile field
  • Establish and maintain a safe environment by monitoring the patient and the environment and implementing safety procedures
  • Coordinate support services needed during surgery by anticipating and communicating patient and surgical team needs
  • Communicate information to the patient and family
  • Organize and coordinate supplies, equipment, and team members to maintain an efficient, effective and safe intraoperative environment; supervise and communicate with health care team members and support service personnel
  • Communicate information to recovery room personnel to promote continuity of care
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of nursing care by comparing patient outcomes with goals
  • Evaluate products to determine safety, effectiveness, use and cost effectiveness
  • Execute nursing activities to provide life support in emergencies by taking appropriate action and/or providing direction to the health care team
  • Initiate appropriate intraoperative behaviors as a circulator or scrub role
Required Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing
  • Active Registered Nurse license through the Washington State Department of Health
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers (AHA)
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire
  • 6+ months of perioperative nursing experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • IV skills or certification
  • 2+ years of perioperative nursing experience (scrubbing and circulating)
  • Demonstrated achievement of performance standards for intraoperative nursing according to AORN standards of practice
Compensation and Benefits

Pay is based on several factors including local labor markets, education, work experience, and certifications.
