Qualifications include an accredited nursing program, RN license, and 1 year of RN experience, with strong communication and computer skills.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Coordinates authorization of new prescriptions/surgeries and refill requests with patient education in collaboration with physician staff.
• Provides medical information for third party payers (Commercial Insurance, Medicaid).
• Maintains knowledge of policies from pharmaceutical companies, payer requirements and regulatory mandates including Medicare/Medicaid.
• Performs work queue review, documentation, and completion.
• Completes annual competency tests and other required assessments.
• Verifies medical necessity of orders during retroactive reviews.
• Communicates findings to colleagues in a timely manner.
• Acts as a resource to educate UAMS staff on prior authorization review issues.
• Participates in in-service and continuing education programs.
• Keeps current with industry trends and Joint Commission guidelines.
• Practices with ethical principles and respect for patients.

Summary of Job Duties:

An RN in an Appointment Business Center typically combines nursing knowledge with patient access, scheduling, and care coordination. The nurse helps patients receive the appropriate appointments and services while ensuring their clinical needs are addressed.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

• Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program with Associates Degree, Nursing Diploma, Bachelors in Nursing, or Master's in Nursing
• Valid RN License
• 1 year of Registered Nursing experience
• Excellent communication skills
• Basic computer skills
• Strong work ethics and accountability.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 3 years or more nursing experience
• Current BLS.
• Current ACLS for Procedural Area

Additional Information:

Job Requirements:

• Coordinates authorization of new prescriptions/Surgeries and refill requests along with patient education coordination in collaboration with physician staff.
• Provides medical information for all 3rd party payers (Commercial Insurance, Medicaid).
• Develops and maintains knowledge base of pharmaceutical companies policies and procedures, third party payer requirements, and any changes that impact the approval process; maintains current knowledge of all federal and state regulatory mandates and requirements including but not limited to Insurance regulation and requirements, Medicare, Medicaid.
• Work Queue review, documentation, and completion.
• Successfully completes annual competency test and any additional competency testing required to validate required skills.
• Performs retroactive reviews when necessary to verify medical necessity of ordered medication or surgeries.
• Communicates findings of reviews verbally or in writing through designated channels in a timely manner.
• Acts as resource to provide information /education to UAMS staff on prior authorization review issues.
• Participates in and contributes to departmental, hospital, and community in-service and continuing education programs.
• Stays current in trends in the industry by referencing of professional literature or publications, including Web-based information.
• Maintains current knowledge of Joint Commission guidelines.
• Decisions and actions are based on ethical principles on the ANA.
• Practices with compassion and respect for the inherent dignity, worth and uniqueness of every patient without restrictions or prejudice.
