Job summary

Cleveland Clinic Akron General is seeking an experienced RN for the 5400 Oncology Unit. You will deliver direct nursing care to cancer patients on this night shift and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to support patient-centered care.

Responsibilities include assessments, care planning, administering treatments and documenting, pursuing chemotherapy certification, and advancing along the clinical ladder. This role requires BSN/ADN or Diploma and RN licensure, with BLS certification.

Qualifications

• Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through AHA or Red Cross.
• Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing (Diploma, ADN or BSN).

Akron General’s 5400 Oncology Unit provides care to cancer patients, trains caregivers to give therapy and provides hands-on learning to achieve chemotherapy competency. As an RN, you will deliver exceptional care, throughout the patient care journey. In this role, you will interact directly with patients and their families, offering the opportunity to enhance their experience and provide healthcare education as needed.

This role offers the opportunity to positively impact the patient experience as you will develop good relationships with patients and havea big impact on their lives and their families. You will also have the opportunity to earn your chemotherapy certification and climb the clinical ladder.

A caregiver in this position works nights from 7:00 P M – 7:30 A M, including every other weekend and 3 holidays per year.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Provide direct nursing care.
• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate care for a given patient population.
• Complete ongoing assessments, recognize changes in patient condition and respond appropriately.
• Develop and update goals, involve patients and families in care and serve as a patient advocate.
• Provide nursing care, administer treatments and medication, and document.
• Participate in ongoing interdisciplinary evaluation of patient / family outcomes, contribute to the improvement of care and participate in the quality improvement process.
• Delegate tasks, serve as a resource person, pursue ongoing education and specialty certifications, maintain applicable certification/ licensure and obtain any required certifications specific to the unit.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing (Diploma, ADN or BSN program)
• Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) Certification or American Red Cross

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Physical Requirements:

• Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
• Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
• Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
• Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
• Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
• Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
• Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required
