The staff RN is responsible for meeting the physical, psychosocial, educational, and emotional needs of the patients assigned to her/his care. The staff RN is responsible for maintaining the patient’s medical record with proper documentation of nursing observations and actions taken. Utilizing the nursing process, the staff RN is responsible for maintaining a safe patient environment at all times. Utilizing the nursing process, the staff RN is responsible for maintaining a safe patient environment at all times. **1.** **Standards, Policies and Procedures:** Maintains the standards of nursing care and implementsthe policies and procedures of the Hospital and Nursing Departments.**2.** **Nursing Process:**A. Assessing: Accurately assesses patient/family conditions and needs on an ongoingbasis. Categories data on basis of scientific principles and in professional terminology.B. Planning: Based on nursing assessment, sets goals and plans appropriate nursinginterventions as evidenced by a written plan including discharge planning.C. Implementing: Performs, directs and coordinates total nursing care. Performs nursingskills with accuracy, speed and safety. Provides patient/family education after assessingeducational needs. Documents pertinent information on patient record which reflectsnursing interventions, patient response and the plan of care. Reports pertinentobservations to the appropriate person. Provides care for patients of all ages in acompetent manner; verification through skills checklist and evaluation.D. Evaluating: Evaluates the effectiveness of nursing intervention in accomplishing goalsand intended patient outcome. This process is evidenced by an updated plan of care.Consistently evaluates personal practice in relation to the standards of care and theindividual patient care plan. Implements changes as necessary.**3. Safety:**Participates in and monitors the maintenance of a clean and safe environment. Familiar withlocation and use of equipment and supplies and assures that they are in good working order.## QualificationsGraduate from an accredited school of nursing and current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Mississippi.Participation in continuing education programs as necessary.
