Job summary

Good Shepherd Hospice is seeking a compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) to join as an On-Call RN on a 7-on/7-off schedule covering OKC, Norman, Hinton and nearby communities. The role provides skilled nursing during after-hours to ensure timely, compassionate care for hospice patients and families.

Ideal candidates have an active RN license and hospice experience, with strong clinical judgment and excellent organizational, communication, and teamwork skills.

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state where care is provided.
• Hospice experience preferred.
• Strong clinical judgment and critical-thinking skills.

Responsibilities

• Receive patient assignments from the Patient Care Manager or Case Manager.
• Provide nursing assessment, planning, and care focused on patient comfort and quality of life.
• Respond to patient and family needs during after-hours and weekend coverage.
• Communicate with attending physicians, hospice staff, and other healthcare agencies to coordinate care.
• Maintain regular communication with patients, families, and the attending physician regarding changes in condition and care needs.
• Assess physical, psychological, social, and spiritual factors that may affect the patient and family.
• Update patient records accurately and timely per Medicare requirements and Good Shepherd Hospice policies.
• Educate patients and caregivers on medications, side effects, personal care, mobility, safety, and end-of-life preparation.
• Provide compassionate support to patients and families at the time of death.
• Escalate unusual situations to the care team.
• Participate in hospice team meetings and patient conferences as needed.
• Continue expanding knowledge of hospice philosophy and pain management.

Overview

Make a Difference When It Matters Most

Good Shepherd Hospice is seeking a compassionate and experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team as an On-Call RN working a 7-on/7-off schedule covering OKC/Norman/Hinton and surrounding communities.

In this role, you will provide skilled nursing support to hospice patients and their families during after-hours periods, helping ensure they receive compassionate, timely care when they need it most.

This position is ideal for an RN who values flexibility, autonomy, strong clinical judgment, and the opportunity to make a meaningful difference for patients and families at the end of life.

Schedule:

7 Days On / 7 Days Off: Thursday-Wednesday

During your on-call week:

• Weekday Shift: Monday–Thursday: 5:00 PM – 8:00 AM
  • Provides after-hours coverage and serves as backup support to overnight nurses.
• Weekend Shift: Friday 5:00 PM – Monday 8:00 AM
  • Provides weekend after-hours coverage.

During your off week, you are completely off call.

• Communicate unusual or potentially concerning patient/family situations to the Patient Care Manager or triage team.
• Participate in hospice team meetings and patient conferences as needed.
• Continue developing knowledge of hospice philosophy and pain management.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
