Job summary
Butterworth Hospital’s 5 West unit in Grand Rapids is seeking a registered nurse to join a 25-bed observation/emergency nursing team. You will provide bedside care on a fast-paced unit, using the nursing process from assessment to evaluation during long night shifts.
You will work night shift from 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., 36 hours weekly, with opportunities for professional development and comprehensive benefits.
Qualifications
- Associates in Nursing Required
- Bachelors in Nursing Required within 5 years
- MI Registered Nurse (RN) Required
- AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) Required within 90 days
Responsibilities
- Delivers nursing care using the nursing process as described by the ANA and the Michigan state regulations.
- Demonstrates competency through assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation.
- Upholds standards of professional performance including ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication and collaboration.

5 West is a smaller unit comprised of 25 beds at Butterworth Hospital supporting our Emergency Department. 5W is a fast paced unit caring for a wide range of patient population. This brings a lot of variety to the patients you will care for and provides the ability to strengthen your critical thinking skills and be part of a dynamic team providing excellent patient care to those needing further testing and observation of symptoms. Types of patients with: Chest Pain, Heart Failure, Kidney Stones, Psychiatric Diagnosis, GI, Orthopedic, and Neuro for both Acute and Chronic Illness Patients. Telemetry, IVs, NG/G-tubes, Chest Tubes, Dressing/Wound Care, CT & MRI Patients. 5W Physicians and Advance Practice Providers remain on the unit so there is 24 hour accessibility which improves relationships, care team collaboration, and efficiency of patient care.
