RN - 2nd/3rd Shift | St. Joseph Institute for Addiction | Port Matilda, Pennsylvania

About the Job:

The Registered Nurse is responsible for providing nursing care to patients, supervising care treatment and services provided by LPNs, CNAs, and other staff on the assigned unit and shift. The nurse develops, implements, and evaluates individual care plans for each client, conducts assessments and re-assessments, and communicates pertinent information with the interdisciplinary team. Reporting client concerns and changes in condition to supervisors or physicians in a timely manner is essential.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  1. Provide and coordinate care by assessing physical and behavioral health needs, developing and implementing nursing care plans, maintaining medical records, and educating clients and families about health conditions while ensuring safety.
  2. Assess client status continuously and document relevant information.
  3. Ensure nursing treatment plans are tailored to assessed needs and completed upon admission.
  4. Accurately take and document physician’s orders, transcribe and review them per policy.
  5. Administer medications accurately, monitor lab results, and adjust medications under supervision.
  6. Notify physicians of significant changes in client status, such as difficulties with detox or medical emergencies.
  7. Supervise self-administration of medications, ensuring safety protocols are followed.
  8. Maintain accountability and security of medications, including narcotics.
  9. Complete admission and discharge processes efficiently and accurately.
  10. Collaborate regularly with the treatment team regarding client care and participate in unit activities.
  11. Educate clients, families, and staff about medication use, side effects, and client rights.
  12. Monitor client acuity, census, and staffing needs, arranging coverage as necessary.
  13. Ensure thorough documentation and complete client assignment sheets daily.
  14. Provide detailed reports to incoming staff, supervisors, and physicians.
  15. Offer coverage in emergency situations as needed.

Education/Experience/Skills:

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing school.
  • One or more years of clinical nursing experience preferred.
  • Experience in behavioral health, psychiatric, or addiction recovery settings preferred.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Valid RN license from the state or a compact state, where applicable.
  • Psychiatric Nursing certification preferred.
