Ergon Marine & Industrial Supply, Inc. in Vicksburg, MS, has an opening for a full-time Big Valley Pilot. The role supports river crews and vessel operations on the Mississippi River, with EMIS facilities in Vicksburg, Memphis, and Wood River.

The pilot ensures safe, compliant vessel and tow operations, leadership of crew, and adherence to EMIS policies and Coast Guard regulations. Training a future pilot is part of this role, with focus on safety and efficiency.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Coast Guard 100-Ton Master's License required.
• Must be able to swim.
• Valid TWIC Card required.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Time with EMIS to prove competence/leadership for internal promotion.

Responsibilities

• Ensure policy, rules and regulations are followed.
• Operate vessel safely while on watch.
• Inspect vessel and tow for safety and maintenance.
• Provide customer service per EMIS Mission Statement.
• Load supplies safely using forklift and ensure onboard before departure.
• Monitor dispatch board for vessel needs and coordinate tasks.
• Complete EMIS forms and vessel records each shift.
• Balance cash drawer and correct mistakes as needed.
• Ensure all crew wear proper PPE on vessels and docks.
• Report incidents to supervisor and log in vessel records.
