Job summary

The University of South Alabama is seeking a Risk Manager for Clinical operations within the Risk Management department. This role will lead investigations, provide risk management services to hospital and clinical units, and ensure HIPAA compliance in handling legal requests and medical records.

Ideal candidates hold a Nursing or Allied Health degree with relevant experience or possess a bachelor’s degree with substantial risk/quality assurance background.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing or Allied Health with 3 years of related experience OR Bachelor's degree with 4 years of related professional experience in risk management or quality assurance.
  • Current licensure with the State of Alabama as a registered nurse (RN) if pursuing nursing path.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts risk investigations, including incidents, adverse events and complaints; prepares reports on findings to Risk Management.
  • Assists with providing Risk Management services to hospital and clinical departments.
  • Reviews and processes legal requests to ensure HIPAA compliance and records prior to release.
  • Reviews medical records and documentation for potential risk issues.
  • Maintains working knowledge of the Shield reporting system for hospital and clinic incidents.
  • Participates in multi-disciplinary meetings.
  • Researches and reports on patient issues; creates detailed medical summaries.
  • Attends hospital, clinical, and/or campus meetings as needed.
