We are currently seeking a Full-Time Risk Manager
The Risk Manager – Claims & Insurance Operations is responsible for the day-to-day management and coordination of the company’s commercial claims and insurance operations for a nationwide multifamily property management organization with approximately 4,000 employees, 930+ properties, and approximately 150,000 apartment units.
The position will provide dedicated operational ownership of claims administration, claim financials, loss runs, insurance documentation, underwriting and renewal support, and coordination with brokers, carriers, third-party administrators (TPAs), adjusters, ownership groups, and internal business partners.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Manage day-to-day commercial claims activity, including general liability, property, workers’ compensation, automobile, and other applicable lines.
- Maintain and monitor claim inventories, status, adjuster information, reserves, incurred values, payments, settlements, deductibles/retentions, and closures.
- Review loss runs and claims financial information for accuracy, significant changes, aging claims, reserve development, and matters requiring escalation.
- Coordinate routine claim activity with brokers, carriers, TPAs, adjusters, Operations, Legal, Finance, ownership groups, and other internal stakeholders.
- Prepare and participate in periodic claim reviews with carriers, TPAs, brokers, and Risk leadership.
- Manage routine commercial insurance administration, including policy documentation, schedules, certificates, endorsements, exposure information, and related records.
- Coordinate renewal and underwriting support, including collection and validation of exposure data, loss information, schedules, applications, and responses to underwriting requests.
- Support insurance requirements associated with property acquisitions, dispositions, and portfolio transitions.
- Support owner and client insurance inquiries, loss information requests, claim reporting, and other insurance-related matters.
- Track deductibles, self-insured retentions, insurance recoveries, and other claim-related financial information.
- On litigated claims, manage the insurance, coverage, exposure, carrier/TPA coordination, and claim-financial aspects of the matter in partnership with Legal. Legal retains responsibility for litigation strategy, legal advice, pleadings, discovery, deadlines, privilege, and outside counsel management.
- Identify recurring claim, coverage, and operational issues and provide loss-experience feedback to Risk leadership for loss-prevention, safety, return-to-work, operational improvement, and broker/carrier loss-control initiatives.
- Maintain accurate claim and insurance information in applicable systems and establish consistent procedures, documentation standards, and workflows.
- Develop recurring claims and insurance reporting and support improvements in data quality, reporting, and Risk Management systems.
- Provide responsive insurance and claims support to Operations, ownership groups, clients, and other internal stakeholders.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in risk management, Insurance, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent directly relevant professional experience.
- Seven or more years of progressively responsible experience in commercial claims, insurance, corporate risk management, brokerage, carrier, TPA, or related insurance operations.
- Demonstrated experience managing commercial claims and working directly with insurance carriers, brokers, TPAs, and adjusters.
- Strong knowledge of claim financials, including reserves, incurred values, payments, loss runs, deductibles/retentions, and claim development.
- Experience with multiple commercial insurance lines, preferably including general liability, property, workers’ compensation, and automobile.
- Experience supporting commercial insurance renewals, underwriting requests, exposure data collection, and insurance administration.
- Strong analytical, organizational, communication, documentation, and follow-through skills.
- Ability to independently manage a significant volume of claims and insurance activity and exercise sound judgment regarding escalation of material matters.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience in multifamily housing, property management, real estate, hospitality, or another large geographically dispersed organization.
- Experience supporting a national commercial insurance and claims program.
- Experience with RMIS or claims management systems.
- Experience with deductible programs, self-insured retentions, master insurance programs, or other alternative risk-financing structures.
Competencies (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):
- Claims and insurance operations: Strong working knowledge of commercial claims processes, insurance documentation, underwriting support, policy administration, loss runs, reserves, deductibles, and self-insured retentions.
- Risk analysis and judgment: Ability to identify trends, evaluate claim and coverage issues, recognize material exposures, and escalation matters appropriately.
- Multifamily/property management awareness: Understanding of property operations, resident and premises liability exposures, property damage issues, workers’ compensation considerations, and geographically dispersed portfolio environments.
- Communication and partnership: Clear written and verbal communication skills with the ability to coordinate effectively with Operations, Legal, Finance, brokers, carriers, TPAs, adjusters, ownership groups, and clients.
- Organization and follow-through: Ability to manage a high volume of claims, deadlines, requests, documentation, and stakeholder communications with accuracy and professionalism.
- Data and reporting: Proficiency in reviewing claim financials, preparing summaries, maintaining records, using claims or risk systems, and supporting process improvements.
- Problem solving: Practical, solutions-oriented approach to resolving coverage, claim, documentation, and operational risk issues.
- Professional discretion: Ability to handle sensitive claim, insurance, legal, financial, employee, resident, and client information with confidentiality and sound judgment.

Compensation:
Full Time - $110,000 - $145,000 Annually
