Job summary

Northside Hospital is seeking a Risk Management Nurse to review incidents, investigate risks, and guide corrective actions within a leading Atlanta-area healthcare system.

The role requires a BSN and at least three years of clinical experience in a hospital or clinic setting, with opportunities to collaborate across departments and participate in quality improvement initiatives. On-site work in Georgia with after-hours availability and involvement in critical committees.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, or equivalent education/experience.
• Three (3) years clinical experience in a clinic or hospital setting.

Responsibilities

• Review incident reports, assess need for further investigation, and determine subsequent action.
• Investigates incidents involving potential risk; reviews documents, interviews involved persons, and assesses liability and risk.
• Determines appropriate action for current risk situations; may open active claim, adjust hospital bill, or negotiate settlement within given parameters.
• Recommends interventions to prevent future risks, collaborating with departments to implement policy changes or in-services.
• Works with defense attorneys and claims services to arrange interviews, write reports, and provide assistance as required.
• Review incident reports via the online system and monitor intervention effectiveness using data trends.
• Supervises risk management function and assists in department goals and Quality Improvement Plan.
• Serves on hospital committees; liaises and presents reports with recommendations.
• Supervises secretary including hiring, training, and performance management.
• Maintains safety practices; reports malfunctions or injuries to Manager.
• Oversees Incident Reporting system for the/location including IT updates and user management.
• Available after hours as a Risk Management resource for staff and physicians.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Reviews incident reports, assesses need for further investigation, and determines subsequent action.
• Investigates incidents involving potential risk. Reviews relevant medical and hospital documents, conducts interviews with involved persons, and assesses present liability and future risk.
• Determines appropriate action for current risk situations. May open active claim, adjust hospital bill, or negotiate settlement within given parameters.
• Recommends planned interventions to prevent future risks, working with appropriate departments, such as recommending policy and procedure changes or providing educational in-services, as needed.
• Works with hospital's defense attorneys and hospital's claims service to arrange interviews, obtain information, write reports, and provide other assistance as required.
• Review incident reports via the on-line system. Monitors and evaluates success of planned interventions by comparing frequency, severity, and trend data.
• Assumes supervisory responsibility for the hospital's risk management function. Assists in development of department goals and Quality Improvement Plan.
• Serves on various hospital committees, such as Resuscitation/Code Blue Committee, Mortality and Morbidity Committee, P & T Committee, Infection Prevention Committee. Acts as liaison develops and presents reports and makes recommendations.
• Assists in supervising the secretary including hiring recommendations, orienting, training, counseling, evaluating and discharging.
• Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injury-accident to Manager.
• Responsible for Incident Reporting system for assigned location including working with IT on updating users such as Gatekeepers and level 2 reviewers, adding or removing departments, and adding or removing categories, as approved.
• Available after hours as a Risk Management resource to staff and physicians, as needed.

REQUIRED

1. Registered Nurse with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, or equivalent education or experience.
2. Three (3) years clinical experience in a clinic or hospital setting.

PREFERRED

1. Masters in Health Law, Nursing, or Business.
2. CPHRM certification.
3. Demonstrated computer knowledge.
