Risk Engineering Consultant (Senior or Specialist level)

Zurich’s property risk engineering team in the Midwest is seeking a property risk account engineer with highly protected risk (HPR) experience. This role will primarily include account engineering responsibilities with potential for periodic field work depending on specialized industry experience. This is a work from home/remote role located in Western Pennsylvania, Ohio, or Michigan, but we are open to candidates in any parts of the Mid West as well.

This role includes a company car with expected overnight travel varying up to 25% to support account activities/meetings.

Job responsibilities:

  • Assess the quality of complex risks as described in the appropriate standard(s) and related competency level and assess loss potentials in accordance with agreed definitions.
  • Support external customers by identifying, and reducing the risks that they face individually, and on an overall account basis.
  • Provide appropriate risk improvement advice, conduct loss investigations (including both trend and root cause analysis), and implement risk improvement programs.
  • Share technical expertise with colleagues, business partners and customers through training delivery or participation in a Centre of Expertise or industry segment.
  • Produce work that complies with Company standards, in terms of technical quality of policies and procedures.
  • Anticipate, recognize and respond to the needs of customers by providing expert solutions and training to key customer(s).
  • Contribute to Business Operation Profit through opportunity spotting and cross selling.
  • Develop and maintain positive customer and business partner relationships and collaborate with both customers and Business partners to develop appropriate service plans.
  • Resolve technical issues, problems and projects in reference to policies and procedures within a specific function or unit.

Final candidates will be subject to a Motor Vehicle Record background check as this position includes a company car.

This role will be filled at either the Senior or Specialist Level. The hiring manager will determine the appropriate level based upon the selected applicant’s experience and skill set relative to the qualifications listed for this position.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 6 or more years of experience in the property Risk Engineering area, including in an account engineer role
  • OR
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 8 or more years of experience in the property Risk Engineering area, including in an account engineer role
  • OR
  • Zurich Certified Apprentice, including an Associate’s degree and 6 or more years of experience in the property Risk Engineering area, including in an account engineer role
  • AND
  • Experience working in a team environment

OR

  • Bachelors Degree and 8 or more years of experience in the Risk Engineering area
  • OR
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the Risk Engineering area
  • OR
  • Zurich Certified Apprentice, including an Associates degree and 8 or more years of experience in the Risk Engineering area
  • AND
  • Knowledge of exposures, controls and best practice risk improvement

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills
  • Advanced knowledge of exposures controls
  • Advanced knowledge within industry segment
  • Knowledge and experience in primary Steel and/or Aluminum industries
  • Certification in area of specialty; Risk Engineering

Additional rewards may encompass short-term incentive bonuses and merit increases. We encourage candidates with salary expectations beyond the provided range to apply as they will be considered based on their experience, skills, and education. The compensation indicated represents a nationwide market range and has not been adjusted for geographic differentials pertaining to the location where the position may be filled. The combined salary range for this position is $98,300.00 - $185,100.00. The proposed salary range for the Senior is $98,300.00 - $161,000.00, with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 15%. The proposed salary range for the AVP is $113,100.00 - $185,100.00, with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 20%.
