SMBC is seeking an experienced Risk (Financial and Non-Financial) Audit Associate to join the Internal Audit Department. A minimum of three years in banking/finance risk is required, with knowledge of banking products and regulatory standards.

You will design and execute audits of varying complexity, communicate findings to management, and participate in broader audit activities. The role supports collaboration with risk and external stakeholders in a hybrid work environment.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of three years of experience in the banking and finance industry or consulting in risk roles.
  • Understanding of banking / capital markets products.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and industry standards for financial and non-financial risk.
  • Knowledge of audit techniques, internal controls, and workpaper standards.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in risk audits from planning to reporting, including issue identification and review.
  • Assess design and operating effectiveness of controls across operational, credit, and other risk areas.
  • Communicate audit strategy and results clearly with stakeholders and senior management.
  • Assist with delivery of IAD's broader audit plan and assurance responsibilities.
  • Engage in continuous monitoring and risk assessment processes to identify trends.
  • Support special projects related to process improvements or strategic initiatives.
  • Track and validate closure of issues raised by the department and regulators.
  • Develop strong working relationships with business management, risk management, external auditors, and regulators.

Role Description

SMBC is seeking an experienced Risk (Financial and Non-Financial) Audit Associate with a minimum of three years of experience in the banking & finance industry to work within the Internal Audit Department.

The Audit Associate will participate in the design and execution of internal audits of various complexities, ensuring audit work is performed in accordance with IIA standards and IAD policies and procedures, as well as participate as a team member on other audit engagements or projects.

Role Responsibilities
  • Participate in risk audits from inception to completion including planning, testing, issue identification, workpaper review, and reporting.
  • Assess the design and operating effectiveness of controls supporting operational risk, credit risk, liquidity risk and other financial and non-financial risk management frameworks.
  • Effectively communicate with stakeholders and audit senior management to clearly articulate audit strategy, testing results, and corrective measures.
  • As needed, assist with the delivery and execution of IAD's broader audit plan and assurance responsibilities.
  • Participate in quarterly and annual continuous monitoring and risk assessment processes to identify business trends and changes in the business risk profile.
  • As needed, assist with special projects related to business process improvements or departmental strategic initiatives.
  • Track and validate closure of issues raised by the department and regulators.
  • Develop, promote, and maintain collaborative and strong working relationships with business management, risk management functions, external auditors, and regulators.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Minimum of three years of experience in the banking and finance industry or consulting companies, preferably in the secondand/or thirdline of defense roles for financial or non-financial risk
  • Working knowledge of banking / capital markets products.
  • Understanding of applicable regulatory requirements, supervisory guidance, and industry standards relevant to financial and non-financial risk
  • Understanding of audit techniques, internal controls, and workpaper standards.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills including the ability to interact effectively at all levels within the organization.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
