Job summary

Sioux Falls School District is seeking an Education Support Professional at Memorial Middle School to assist students with daily living tasks, monitor behavior, and support instructional activities. The role emphasizes safety, confidentiality, and coordinated care with teaching staff.

The position offers a 0.875 FTE schedule (35 hours/week, 9 months) from Monday to Friday, 8:30am–4:00pm, with a starting hourly wage and a $1,000 sign-on bonus.

Qualifications

• Two years of post high school education or higher, or pass a state-approved test for designated Education Assistant positions.
• Experience working with individuals with disabilities or experience with behavior management.
• Must pass a pre-employment physical.
• Must demonstrate and pass safety competency review on a yearly basis.

Responsibilities

• Assist students in accessing transportation.
• Provide personal care to students with special daily living needs in accordance with safety competencies.
• Support teacher with 1:1 and small-group instruction in special education or regular classrooms.
• Work with students in school and community sites.
• Prepare instructional materials as directed by the teacher.
• Reinforce instructional/behavioral objectives as directed.

REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION LEVEL:

Two years of post high school education or higher, or be able to pass a standardized test approved by the state of South Dakota, for designated Education Assistant positions.

EXPERIENCE DESIRED:

Experience working with individuals with disabilities or experience with behavior management.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The physical demands of this job include general activity such as sitting, standing, walking, bending, squatting, kneeling, pushing and pulling throughout the school day. The position requires carrying and lifting of body weight and/or objects/equipment as well as pushing/pulling forces of individuals in wheelchairs and adaptive devices from1 to 40 pounds continuously, 40-60 pounds frequently and from 60 to 99 pounds occasionally. Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical, if new hires (including transfers).

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Must demonstrate and pass safety competency review on a yearly basis.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & DUTIES

1. Assists students in accessing transportation.
2. Provides personal care to students with special daily living needs (e.g., toileting, feeding, physical management) in accordance with established safety competencies.
3. Provides review and practice of skills taught by a teacher with students 1:1 and in small groups in special education classroom and/or regular classroom.
4. Works with students in schools and in community sites.
5. Prepares instructional materials as directed/selected by teacher.
6. Reinforces instructional/behavioral objectives with children as directed by the teacher/therapist.
7. Provides assistance to maintaining student records (charting, assignments, attendance, data for progress notes).
8. Monitors identified student(s) in lunchroom/on playground.
9. Maintain the confidentiality of students and their families.
10. Assists with management of student behavior.
11. Performs other duties as assigned.

PAY INFORMATION

Level G, Starting at $18.42 + $2* = $20.42 per hour + $1,000 sign-on bonus

*This position earns the Education Support Professional differential pay. Each position that qualifies for the Education Support Professional differential pay earns an additional $2 per hour.

PayDay: Last working day of each month, based on the payroll cutoff schedule.
