Summary

You will serve as a RIGGING WORK (FORKLIFT OPERATOR) in the Department of the Navy to include work sites of Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Trident Refit Facility Bangor and Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility.

Duties
  • Assist journeyman riggers in rigging up hoisting and pulling gear for lifting, moving, and positioning heavy loads.
  • Assist in fabricating, installing, and repairing standing and running rigging, wire and fiber rope items such as slings, towing bridles, nets, and other ship and boat rigging and handling of test weights.
  • Operate electric, gasoline, or diesel powered forklift trucks capable of lifting loads weighing 10,000 pounds or more.
  • Drive forklift trucks over rough and sometimes muddy terrain through narrow aisles in outside storage areas.
Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
  • Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
  • Must be determined eligible for Selective Service if born after 12-31-59.
  • May be required to complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • Must obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty.
  • Must successfully complete a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana); may be subject to random drug testing.
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Must be able to lift 100 pounds and occasionally carry equipment that weighs up to 60 pounds.
  • Work may be performed in shops and aboard ships and submarines, involving stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, and climbing.
  • Travel may be required to CONUS and OCONUS, and may include remote or isolated sites; must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods.
  • Work may be subject to unusual duty hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Qualifications
  • Experience with rigging, forklift operation, and heavy lifting.
  • Ability to perform the work without more than normal supervision.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures for working on ships and in tight spaces.
