Job summary

Gulf Copper in Texas seeks an experienced rigging technician. You will select gear, attach loads, and rig overhead structures for lifting operations. You will guide workers during hoisting, operate rigging gear, and perform inspections to ensure safety and reliability in open-air yard environments.

The role requires industrial and/or marine rigging experience, plus certification preferences (NCCCO, NCCER or trained/rigger). Open-air conditions and potential PPE use are expected.

Qualifications

  • Industrial and/or marine rigging experience required.
  • Open-air/rough working conditions exposure.
  • 1st Class: 3-5 years; 2nd Class: 1-3 years.

Responsibilities

  • Select gear (cables, pulleys, winches) according to load weights/sizes.
  • Attach loads to rigging to provide support or prepare for moving.
  • Attach pulleys/blocks to overhead structures using bolts/clamps.
  • Install ground rigging for yarding lines and attach chokers to logs/lines.
  • Direct workers to ensure safety during hoisting and moving loads.
  • Control movement of heavy equipment through confined spaces using rigging lines and hoists.
  • Fabricate, set up, and repair rigging and hoists.
  • Inspect and dress machine surfaces and components.
  • Dismantle and store rigging equipment after use.
  • Perform visual inspections/test rigging before use for safety.

Job description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

This positionis responsible forthe following: Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Select gear such as cables, pulleys, and winches, according to load weights and sizes,andfacilities.

  1. Attach loads to rigging to provide support or prepare them for moving, using hand and power tools.

  1. Attach pulleys and blocks to fixed overhead structures such as beams, ceilings, and gin pole booms, using bolts and clamps.

  1. Install ground rigging for yarding lines, attaching chokers to logs and to the lines.

  1. Signal or verbally direct workers engaged in hoisting and moving loads to ensuresafetyof workers and materials.

  1. Control movement of heavy equipment through narrow openings or confined spaces by manipulate rigging lines, hoists, and pulling gear to move or support materialsusingchain falls, gin poles, gallows frames, and other equipment.

  1. Fabricate, set up, and repair rigging, supporting structures, hoists, and pulling gear.

  1. Clean and dress machine surfaces andcomponentparts.

  1. Dismantle and store rigging equipment after use.

  1. Performvisual inspections andtest riggingbefore useto ensure safety and reliability.

Required Education & Experience:

  1. Industrial and/or marine rigging experience:

  • 1stClass: 3-5 years**

  • 2ndClass:1-3 years

  1. NCCCO or NCCER Preferred

  1. Trained/RiggerCertifiedPreferred**

Working Conditions:

  1. Open-air conditions such as noisy, hot, cold, etc.

  1. May work around fumes, odors, chemicals, and dust.

  1. Traverse and negotiate gangways and scaffolding at varying heights.

  1. Enter and work in Operator's cab and similar confined spaces.

  1. Some climbing (100 feet) and lifting (50 lbs.) involved.

  1. Traverse and negotiate uneven surfaces.

  1. Must wearPPEwhen necessary.
