Job summary

Axis is seeking a Rig Operator to lead a 4-5 person crew on a workover rig. You will operate and drive the rig, inspect setup and maintenance, and support safety programs in line with Axis standards. Travel and overtime may be required to meet customer needs.

The role requires 5+ years of workover rig experience, including 2+ years as a Rig Operator, with Derrick Hand and Floor Hand experience preferred. A valid CDL and clean MVR are required where applicable.

Qualifications

• Valid driver’s license with acceptable MVR; Class A or B CDL preferred.
• Minimum five (5) years of workover rig experience, including at least two (2) years of Rig Operator experience; Derrick Hand and Floor Hand experience required; production experience preferred.

The Rig Operator, reporting to the assigned Field Supervisor/Tool Pusher, leads a 4-5-person workover rig crew and is responsible for safely operating and driving the assigned workover rig. This position is responsible for crew preparation, rig inspection and maintenance, safe rig-up and rig-down activities, and supporting required safety programs in accordance with company procedures, customer requirements, and Axis safety and performance standards. Additional duties may be assigned by the Field Supervisor/Tool Pusher or other designated operations management.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

• Confirms scheduled shift times and ensures the full crew is prepared for work at the assigned rig.
• Operates and drives the assigned workover rig as necessary to the job site with direction from the Field Supervisor/Tool Pusher and/or customer company representative.
• Inspects the setting up, taking down and transportation of the assigned workover rig.
• Conducts routine inspection and troubleshooting on all service equipment.
• Monitors, tests, installs, lifts, and removes equipment using proper job and safety procedures.
• May train and direct the crew on safety and job procedures.
• Handles job safety analysis and daily maintenance program for the rig, ensuring the crew understands the programs and procedures.
• May be requested to work outside of the assigned work schedule to meet customer needs.
• Depending on project and rig assignment, may be required to perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Tool Pusher/Field Supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

• High school diploma, GED, or the equivalent.
• Must have a valid state-issued driver's license with acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR); Class A or B CDL preferred and may be required based on assigned equipment, location, customer requirements, or DOT-regulated driving responsibilities.
• Minimum five (5) years of workover rig experience, including at least two (2) years of Rig Operator experience. Prior Derrick Hand and Floor Hand operational and safety experience required; production experience preferred.
• Working knowledge of basic service mechanical functions.
• Ability to access the work environment by use of a ladder at heights of 50 ft. or more.
• Long periods of standing, squatting, kneeling, reaching or similar activities may be necessary.
• Able to perform duties with protective equipment, H2S respirator where required; potential hazards include working near or with heavy tools and moving machinery.
• Must be able to travel as job requires.
• Work may be performed in all weather conditions.
• Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing to understand and follow safety instructions, job procedures, customer requirements, and emergency communications.
• Ability to interact with others in a team environment and work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks at once.
• Basic problem solving and organizational skills.
• Excellent customer service skills, to provide world class value to Axis customers.
• Have dependable form of communication – cell phone preferred.

• Frequently lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Individual lifting is limited to 50 lbs.; loads over 50 lbs. require a two-person lift or mechanical assistance in accordance with the company lifting policy.
• Work 12-hour shifts, with typical posture requirements of standing approximately 7.0 hours, sitting approximately 2.0 hours, and walking approximately 3.0 hours per shift.
• Frequently kneel, bend, climb, push, pull, and perform manual handling activities while rigging up/down, inspecting equipment, and supporting workover operations.
• Climb ladders and access work areas at heights of 50 ft. or more, including workover rig structures and related service equipment.
• Safely grip, hold, operate, and control tools, rig components, and service equipment required for workover rig operations.
• Work outdoors in all weather conditions, including temperature extremes, around oil and gas well sites and heavy/moving machinery.
• Work in high-noise environments requiring adequate hearing, communication awareness, and use of required hearing protection and other job-specific PPE.
• Wear required personal protective equipment, including an H2S respirator where required, and maintain the ability to safely perform duties in hazardous oilfield environments.
• Travel approximately 75% and work a typical 14/7 rotation schedule, subject to customer, district, and operational needs.
• Maintain adequate vision, hearing, mobility, strength, and stamina to safely perform essential functions and communicate in hazardous oilfield operating environments.
