Washington County Schools (TN) is seeking an Assistant Coach to manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, and good sportsmanship.

The role includes holding tryouts, assessing and placing players, organizing regular practice times, coaching on rules and techniques, monitoring eligibility, modeling sportsmanship, communicating with administrators, and maintaining records.

Qualifications

  • High school education or GED is required or preferred.
  • One year of experience is preferred but not required with appropriate training.
  • Meets health and physical qualifications.

  • Assesses skills and determines team members and assigns team positions.
  • Develops a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time to provide both individual and team development.
  • Coaches and instructs players regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
  • Monitors the academic performance of team members to ensure eligibility requirements are maintained.
  • Models sportsmanship-like behavior and reflects appropriate conduct towards players, school community, officials, and spectators.
  • Communicates with the Principal and Athletic Director regarding policies, procedures, performances, and problems.
  • Maintains eligibility forms, emergency data cards, physicals, equipment/uniform inventory, and other related records.

Education

Physical Demands

This job requires lifting of objects that exceed 50 lbs., or the average weight of a child, if assigned to elementary grades, with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 lbs or more.
