Job summary

The Minneapolis VA Health Care System is seeking a board-certified or board-eligible rheumatologist to intermittently fill shortages within the department. Rheumatologists diagnose and treat degenerative, autoimmune and inflammatory diseases that affect the musculoskeletal system.

Duties include serving as attending physician in outpatient clinics, supervising joint injections, collaborating with nurse practitioners, and teaching trainees.

Qualifications

• Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed.
• Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the LCME for the year in which the degree was granted.
• Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by COCA for the year in which the degree was granted. For foreign graduates, confirm ECFMG eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Serving as attending physician in outpatient clinics.
• Supervising and/or conducting joint injections and aspirations.
• Consultation with two nurse practitioners, inpatient consultation.
• Ad hoc travel to provide rheumatology care in community-based outpatient clinics (CBOCs).
• Teaching of University of Minnesota rheumatology fellows, internal medicine residents and medical students.
